CBS issued a press release today announcing that the six major U.S. broadcast networks - CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox, UPN and The WB, will be simulcasting a live one-hour special next Friday, September 9 called "Shelter From the Storm: A Concert for the Gulf Coast" to raise funds for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The special will air from 8PM ET to 9PM ET, meaning it will cut into the first hour of the debut of Friday Night SmackDown! on UPN.
UPN hasn't yet announced whether SmackDown! will air at a later timeslot or whether the show will be postponed until another night. It seems likely that the show will air at 9PM ET next Friday.
While i'm dissapointed about the delay, it's for a terrific cause and I hope they raise a lot of money.
I hope JV is right and that UPN pushes Smackdown back an hour and hope that they do not choose to just air the 2nd half of the show.

not that I don't agree that it's for a good cause, but why do all of those stations need to play the special? 6 channels, really. I understand they all want to help and even pull in ratings off of this, but this is just something I've never really understood.
Arnt they still going to show Smackdown but its just going to be an hour?
Yes, it's going to be from 9-10 p.m. Of course, that's assuming that this special only lasts an hour. These specials tend to run longer than advertised, so WWE may be wise to just run a recap show next week and then run the advertised card in two weeks, that way there's no major conflict.
It wouldn't be that hard for UPN to air it from 9 PM to 11 PM since the only thing they air at 10 is Blind Date. The only reason that ALL 6 networks are doing it is because it's a good PR move.

Unfortunately it's not that easy as most UPN networks have a local news broadcast that comes on at 10 p.m.
