Smackdown Spoilers 23rd October

Here are this weeks spoilers

- Batista & Mysterio vs. Jericho & Kane tonight.

- Chris Jericho starts things off. Bragging Rights hype. JTG interrupts, then Vickie Guerrero interrupts. JTG's better on the mic. Eric Escobar comes out, then Dolph Ziggler, then Drew McIntyre. Finally, Kane. Kane & Jericho run down their team for not being ready and set up a 4 on 5 tag match, because Shad is sick. Different stipulation than Raw's 5 on 5 match. This time, if a member of Team Smackdown loses, the whole team is replaced.

- 1st Match - Eric Escobar, JTG, Drew McIntyre & Dolph Ziggler vs. The Hart Dynasty, Finlay, Matt Hardy & R-Truth. Long match. Hardy pins JTG with a Twist of Fate after Finlay with a shillelagh hit.

- CM Punk, Scott Armstrong and Teddy Long are in the back talking about the screw job. Armstrong bails out, but runs into Vince McMahon.

- 2nd Match - John Morrison vs. Mike Knox. Morrison wins with Starship Pain. Morrison gives a short promo after the match.

- Jericho & Kane congratulate Hardy and company on replacing all 5 of the old Smackdown team.

- Mickie James, Michelle McCool, Mae Young and Beth Phoenix promo. Young slaps the fool out of McCool.

- Batista & Rey talk backstage.

- 3rd Match - Batista & Mysterio vs. Jericho & Kane. Pyrofest 2009. Batista pins Kane with a spear after Mysterio scarifies himself to Kane on a chokeslam.

- Vince McMahon talks up tonight's main event. Armstrong caved in. Taker-McMahon WrestleMania 26 foreshadowing here. Vince blackmails Armstrong by saying Bullet Bob could go in Hall of Fame this year if he cooperates.

- 4th Match - Mickie James vs. Layla. Mickie wins with a spin kick. And let's just say she's gotten the message from being moved.

- Captain Lou package.

- Cole & King hype Bragging Rights.

- 5th Match - CM Punk vs. Undertaker - Submission Match for the World Heavyweight Title. Punk and company come out with a Straight Edge promo. Great simple stuff from Punk. Taker wins with Hell's Gate despite Punk's attempts at another screwjob. Punk tapped way too quickly.

- Taker plays to the crowd to send us home happy.

Team Smackdown looks a lot stronger now.

I don't think Smackdown spoilers read well. I'm sure it'll be just as good as always, but looking at it written down I'm not intrested in any of it.

So Team Smackdown has been replaced by all the guys they beat to become part of the team?

I have to think that the replacing will be to further future storylines. To randomly change the team at the last minute is horrible booking otherwise.

Smackdown opens with Chris Jericho coming to the ring. He puts himself over and hypes that the Smackdown team will win on Sunday. JTG comes out without Shad and we will find out that he's out with the flu. Some good back and forth between Jericho and JTG. Jericho ripping on the crowd for being parasites and giving Shad the flu. Jericho talks about how his team will manhandle Raw but that turns into a running joke from JTG saying Jericho can handle all the men himself. Vickie Guerrero blasts through with her "Excuse me!" and draws heat of the night. She and Eric Escobar come out. Escobar introduces himself and JTG rips on him for having the first name "Eric" which makes it sound like he's from the Cheese State... Minnesota. But that must be where he met Vickie because cheese... cows... moo. Yeah. Dolph Ziggler then interrupts and says that the Cheese State isn't Minnesota... it's Idaho. Yeah guys, Columbia, South Carolina was lost at this point. Next came Drew McIntyre with a very basic I am Smackdown promo only to be interrupted by Kane. Kane and Jericho then run down their own team about not being ready and they announced that since Shad was out, the planned 5 on 5 tag match was now a 4 on 5 match and if anyone on their team lost, the whole team would be replaced with the other 5 man team.

Ironic note of the night: There were some kids in the row ahead of me with a "Jeff Hardy" sign that the dad folded down so it would just say "Hardy" then the top half was torn off.

First Match - JTG, Eric Escobar, Drew McIntyre, and Dolph Ziggler vs. Finlay, the Hart Dynasty, Matt Hardy and R-Truth. Hardy and Truth were really over with the Carolina crowd. Finlay worked most of the match and then we had the "everything breaks down, go after your feud partner" moment and Finlay smacks JTG in the knee and he turns in to a Twist of Fate from Hardy. The former Team Smackdown members just walked back up the ramp while the new Team Smackdown stared them down and celebrated in the ring. Really odd seeing Finlay raise David Hart Smith's hand seeing the recent history of how the Hart Dynasty formed.

CM Punk, Teddy Long and Scott Armstrong are in Long's office going over recent events and talking about their game plan tonight. Armstrong has a fit of conscious and decides even if it gets him fired, he can't go through with it again. He goes to leave but runs straight into Vince McMahon.

Second Match - John Morrison vs. Mike Knox. They show Marty Jannetty and Miz from Monday before Knox comes out. Really short match and somewhat disappointing. After the pin, Morrison basically says he'll prove who the Jannetty is between him and Miz this Sunday.

Jericho and Kane congratulate their new team on winning tonight. But they want to win and want to make sure everyone is on the same page. Truth tells Jericho that we might not like you, but we respect you. They're Smackdown first. Kane sums it up with "Good talk" at the end for a chuckle.

Mickie and Mae Young are talking in the corridor and Michelle McCool comes up and we have our Degrassi segment for the week. McCool tells Mickie sorry she didn't make the Smackdown Diva team but there's always next year. I laughed because the next PPV is Survivor Series but I digress. Mickie tells McCool she knows the real reason she didn't make the team because McCool is afraid of her taking the title. McCool turns in to Beth Phoenix and Beth wants the title too. McCool then talked down to Mae Young after James and Phoenix left and Young slapped the McFool out of McCool.

We then see Batista and Rey Mysterio in the locker room getting ready for their tag match. Come Sunday, it's all about the title.

So there's a big chunk of time in backstage segments there.

Third Match - Bastista and Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho and Kane. Some nice stuff with Rey and Jericho, no where near some of their previous encounters but that wasn't the story here. The finish comes down to Kane having Batista set up for a chokeslam but Mysterio rushes in and grabs Kane's arm only to get a chokeslam which allows Batista to hit a spear and pick up the win. So Mysterio shows that he might sacrifice himself for his big buddy if he's in trouble.

Another segment in Long's office and Vince McMahon has convinced Scott Armstrong to stay and do his part. Vince goes on a speech about how "things that lead to WrestleMania start here and at this time of the year." Neon sign here people! Flashing with Taker won't have the belt after Survivor Series. McMahon then put the screws to bullying Armstrong by bringing up his father, Bullet Bob Armstrong, and saying he might be a prime candidate for going in to the Hall of Fame this year.

Fourth Match - Mickie James vs. Layla. Mickie... ahem... looked better than she might have in the past couple of months, on all ends. Layla worked great too, pulling out a sitting Rings of Saturn and some mat work before Mickie got on a streak and hit a spinning back kick to the face for the pin.

The Captain Lou memorial video package plays and gets a good response from the crowd.

Cole and King hit the ring for the "we have a PPV this Sunday" hype. I found it funny they were reading off of index cards in the ring but it was a last minute change on the announce team.

Fifth Match - CM Punk vs. Undertaker in a Submission Match for the World Heavyweight Title. Punk comes out with Long and Armstrong in tow. Punk is just miles away from anyone else with his expressions and tone while cutting a Straight Edge promo. Taker and Punk go at it at the bell and Taker levels Punk with a soupbone. They continue to trade shots and Punk tries to clamp on the Anaconda Vice but Taker quickly scrambles to a corner to resettle himself. Taker takes over and they brawl to the outside with Taker throwing Punk over the barricade. They come back up to the announce table and Taker lays Punk on it then kicks him off. A "Use the Table" chant broke out and Taker teased that he would ever so slightly before just throwing Punk back in the ring. Punk blocks an Old School attempt. Punk then attacks Taker's legs after Taker got hung up on the top rope after a big boot attempt and he took a nasty fall back. Punk threw Taker into the steps which was really nasty looking as well. Punk gets Long to give him a chair but Long gives it to Armstrong as Taker is laid out. Punk snatches the chair away from Armstrong and rushes to hit Taker with it but Taker gets a boot up. Taker then turns his attention to Armstrong and gives him a nice chokeslam. Long starts freaking out and you should be able to hear the "RUN TEDDY! RUN!" chants at this point. Long backs up around the ring towards the ramp distracting Taker while Punk gets back up and uses the chair on him. Taker is laid out but Armstrong is too, so Punk calls for another referee. Mike Chioda runs down while Long looks on like his life is on the line. Punk clamps on the Anaconda Vice and that look of "I win!" is great on his face. But almost immediately, Taker just rolls out of and gets Punk in Hell's Gate and Punk taps way too quickly. Long looks at the ring like his soul is as good as gone, Punk coughs on the outside to sell Hell's Gate and Undertaker poses in the ring to end the show.

The crowd started pretty good but got worn out by the main event. Hardy and Truth got the biggest reactions while Vickie Guerrero and Jericho edged out Punk for heat. It was a strangely fast going night. Nothing blow away but fairly solid
