Was that before or after the Umaga/Lashley thing? (Which, personally, I wouldn't have touched with a ten foot pole.)
Before, actually. When he came back from Hollywood, it didn't feel the same. Not because of the heel turn or the character, but because we all kind of knew that The Rock wasn't going to stay. He's always wanted to be an actor and has always wanted to be in movies. He also has told magazines that his wrestling career is behind him and he wants to be taken seriously as an actor. The only thing that has me scratching my head is what Deuce said. If he wants people to stop talking about his wrestling career, why does he keep making these kinds of appearances? You're just giving them more to talk about.

I can't say I'm too fussed to see The Rock making an appearance on next weeks SmackDown! Via a recorded tape but I'm sure there's quite a few people that are. I'm not a fan of him after the way he virtually disowned his roots and what got him into the film industry. Wrestling made The Rock, not the other way around and he hasn't once showed a bit of grace.
As someone else already pointed out I wonder how much money WWE are going to be giving him? If they are paying him, more fool them.
You want him to do what exactly? Put aside a couple of months out the year to wrestle? Repeat in interview after interview that he "was a wrestler once, don't ya know"? The Rock worked his arse of in the 'E to have a hall of fame worthy career and it paid off by getting him recognised by film studio's. He has a talent and an appeal and they (and he) cashed in on that. He's come back multiple times and doesn't have to do this appearence now, but he is (because it's tenth anniversary of his show for those wondering why) and whenever he's asked about the business by any kind of media he is nothing but gracious. I personally got over the feelings of betrayal at his leaving for Hollywood about the time his appearence in The Mummy happened and I realised that I'm not such a pathetic person to believe that anyone should have to limit themselves to one single career path if they choose otherwise.

It should appease some fans, but it won't. There's no valid reason for The Rock to even do a pre-taped appearance, but he did anyway. WWE benefited from The Rock just as he benefited from WWE, they're even and The Rock doesn't owe them anything.
As for his fans, shit, Race To Witch Moutian, that was for them. Some people are never happy. If he was still wrestling now then people would be wishing injuries on the man, like they do Triple H. It's better to be left wanting more.

Its a shame one or two people can't read but anyways...
I think people felt betrayed because he said something along the lines of "he would never leave"...I don't feel betrayed, just slightly annoyed that he keeps on shying away from the wrestling business and behaving as if he wasn't apart of it. The pathetic people are the ones that say something and do the opposite.
Also, know one is denying Rocky worked his arse off because he did, he was an incredible talent although I think his films are cheesy...Suppose we're going to have the blame the writers though because Dwanye Johnson is just that great.
As much as people are saying it's lame to have him on for a taped segment, it makes sense in this case.
Those that don't remember the beginnings of the show Smackdown need to know that "Smackdown" was one of The Rock's catchphrases, and when the show started, The Rock billed Smackdown as "The Rock's show". It was made near the height of his popularity, and the Rock was all over that show in the beginning.
The point of having him doing the tape is most likely to give him a quick nod for "creating" the show in the first place (kayfabe...what?) He'll most likely appear saying something like "Glad to see The Rock's show is still going strong 10 years later...blah blah blah".
Considering the history and origins of the show, I think it's a nice touch by the WWE and the Rock to take a few minutes out of the 10th anniversary show to acknowledge this.
Not to say I won't enjoy it....but it's not a big deal. Unless he has agreed to be involved in a future match and this is part of the set up all it will be is him doing his usual routine, saying how great Smackdown has been for 10 years, and then promoting the Tooth Fairy.
If he calls Cena a bitch I will mark out though....
