Edge was injured tonight in a match with Jeff Hardy in San Diego. About five minutes into the match he suffered what at this point is believed to be a torn Achilles tendon and the match had to be stopped. Edge apologized to the fans before being taken out.
The match started with posturing so they were really only a minute into the actual action when the injury took place. It appeared he simply planted his foot wrong and went down with his leg at a bad angle. EMTs came to give him help before he was taken from the ring.
That is a serious injury that would likely require surgery and a long period of down time. We'll have more on this as we get updated. The rest of the Smackdown crew has to leave first thing tomorrow for a flight to Honolulu.
An update from WWE is that most likely they are going to try and figure a way to get the belts on Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase. Right now they are looking at footage of the Edge vs. Great Khali match taped Wednesday night in Bakersfield trying to find a spot where they can claim a storyline injury to Edge if the torn Achilles tendon turns out to be the accurate diagnosis.

Sucks for Edge... but maybe someone else can now step into his spot and solidify themselfs as a main eventer.
Storyline wise it is a shame to see the Jericho/Edge alliance having to be split up prematurely. I'm not liking the fact they're going to put the belts straight on Legacy, but then again there aren't many serious other candidates to put them on.
I'm going to wait, and see what the deal is. It's not a definite this is the injury.
If it is what is reported in this story then Edge is going to be out for a long ass time.
... which is why 'if it turns out to be the accurate diagnosis' meaning it's not really known by F4W yet. Shame, though, you have to hate it when injuries happen in good storylines... especially when it's a serious ankle injury like that. A month, they probably would find a way to keep the titles and just have Chris do the work. But if it's as serious as it sounds, oh boy.

Why not just have Jericho pick a new partner? I seem to remember that happening before. It wouldnt be very fair on Jericho to lose them because Edge got injured.

Yeah but if the plan was to have Jericho and Edge as tag champs, why would they just pick a random partner for Jericho? Only Edge worked for the angle really.
I'm guessing I wasn't the only one praying this was Triple H....
Anyway, I'm very disappointed by this. A couple of months ago I might not have cared as much but the angle with Jericho was very promising indeed. Such a shame.
Hope he recovers sooner than expected, but it sounds like he's gonna be out a long time.
. Sucks for Edge. The dude is pretty much very injury prone though so it's no that hard to believe. Hopefully he returns very very soon.
