I thought that match was ok at best. Cena was having a great day, bar the terrible STFU he applied. But Batista looked more motivated in his match against Umaga.

I disagree completely. I thought the Umaga match was a classic example of the lazy Batista showing up, whereas he did quite well in the Cena match. Cena did better, yes, but he's a better wrestler. The STF was indeed bad.
Also, I think there is a lot of untapped potential in Batista because he could be a great badass heel. WWE don't seem keen to try anything new though so him, HHH and Cena will probably be faces forever.
The only thing to look forward to about Batista's return is an eventual continuation of the Cena/Batista program.
That and the inevitable moment where they both injure the other and we get WWE without either for a while.
I like both men, it'd just be nice. That and if Trips mananged to reinjure his knees. That would be epic win for the likes of MVP, Jack Swager, Evan Bourne and The Miz.
I'd really like to see the next time be career ending to be honest. He's not giving back and looks set to never do so... Let him be the booker if he likes, let's see what he can do there.
