Mickey Rourke's comments about heading to World Wrestling Entertainment were picked up by a number of markets today, including MSNBC and Access Hollywood, among others. The plan right now is to make Chris Jericho Rourke's adversary for the flagship WWE PPV this April in Houston, Texas.
In regard to WWE's interest in Mickey Rourke being at Wrestlemania, I am told Vince McMahon's interest in the film did a complete 180 after the Academy Award nominations came out, feeling that they could tie the film and Rourke's portrayal of Randy the Ram into Wrestlemania, giving their flagship PPV some outside star power with the the lure of a potential Academy Award winner recreating his role in "real life".
While I expect some will say Rourke is trivializing his comeback, it's not like he hasn't gone completely against the grain in the first place all through his career path. Rourke told Access Hollywood that he wanted to do the appearance and had been talking to Roddy Piper about it. His comments were picked up in a number of media outlets today, specifically Great Britain.
Rourke's first comments came during the red carpet ceremony of the SAG film awards, where he praised how the wrestling community had embraced the film and said he was going to go to Houston for Wrestlemania to kick Chris Jericho's ass. The film didn't garner any SAG Awards last night.
In an interview I conducted last week with Afa the Wild Samoan in the PWInsider.com Elite section, Afa commented that Rourke "should have been a wrestler" all along and was "immediately one of the boys" the second he stepped into the ring to prepare for the film.

it wouldnt be so bad if maybe jericho starts badmouthign the movie and the actor comes out to challenge him but if he actually shows up as Randy the ram then thats just stupid.
If Vince hated The Wrestler so much, why is he having Rourke at 'Mania?
Because it's been nominated for Oscars and won Golden Globe's... As the report said. Or didn't you read it?
I'm a bit undecided about this. Honestly, it makes perfect sense to have Rourke at 'Mania, but whether he's in a match or not begs to be questioned. I mean he did a lot of training with Afa for the movie, and when interview Necro Butcher was very complimentary of Rourke's skill considering the short amount of time he'd been working. But filming a match in sections for a movie, and actually wrestling in front of the biggest crowd WWE has every year, live on PPV, are two hugely different things. It could be very interesting though.
