Angle has started off as a goofy heel from his debut in 2000 all the way to 2001. After that he played a more serious heel on-and-off between switching sides. JBL only became heel in 2004 but has stayed heel since.
2. He's freakin' rich! Like "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase before him, Layfield had the cash to almost buy any championship he wanted.
3. He had an African-American bodyguard of sorts. Like Virgil, Orlando Jordan as the "Chief of Staff" served all the menial tasks, his employer did not want him to do.
4. Kurt Angle has fans who cheer for him no matter what he does, JBL only has fans [like myself] because of his commentary and his original Radio Show format.
Tough one, but I think Kurt comes off kinda annoying as a heel sometimes. Just like.....too intense for a heel. Heels needs to be shadier than he is I think.
While Angle did struggle to keep heel heat on himself, JBL made me want to turn the channel. There's heel heat and then there's 'Turn the channel' heat.

Kurt might have influenced me a little more before his TNA run, because he became a joke at times. But low and behold, at one point, JBL was my favorite. I loved to hate him.
