Of all the months of the year, January is typically the one when rumours about new tech products keep the internet humming. That's probably something to do with the CES show and speculation surrounding it, both before and after.
Among the most creative we've come across recently is a suggestion by respected technology website To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. No more Mac
That idea comes from Apple's multiple applications in various territories to have the term 'OS X' protected. That's notable because it doesn't include the word 'Mac'.
The thinking goes something like this – Apple is weakening the connection between OS X and Mac simply because the operating system powers platforms other than computers.
Play for games
That includes just the iPhone and iPod touch at the minute, but could equally apply to a future console or any other domestic device that needs an OS.
Since Apple is clearly intent on making the iPhone a powerful gaming device and will therefore have both the games and an online delivery system (the App Store), why not speculate that it could try to make a play for some of the cash Nintendo and Sony are raking in?
While we like the idea that anyone would challenge the current console giants, it's hard to believe that Apple will do so anytime soon.
Pippin redux?
Anyone with an unhealthy knowledge of the history of home gaming will know that Apple has already tried and failed spectacularly with something called the To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. in 1995.
Still, Apple rarely does exactly what we expect, so we're not ruling anything out at this stage. Just don't read too much into this little bit of speculation.
Since the XBOX and XBOX 360 did somewhat decent with exclusive games and console sales, Apple can make a comeback after failing with the console called Pippin 14 yrs ago.
Here's the question: Do you think in the future, Apple should get back in making a console?

I think that there is already too much competition from Microsoft, Sony & even Nintendo to have another console. Stick to making music devices and computers.

I really like the idea, but the compition would be so stiff they'd have to have something ground breaking to go out and buy another system. People would need to buy all new games and all that shit. With macs beings a big part of my life and me having a lot of mac stuff, I think first off they need should work on getting more Mac computer games. Right now there is such a fine line of games that it almost makes me want to go out and buy a PC because they have almost every title, and for me it's impossible to find a mac game that I like.
Meh, honestly who knows? I mean, if there is one thing we know about Apple, is they sure the hell know how to market. If they put a new, innovative, affordable console on the market and put some shitty underground pop song to it....people will buy it.

All they do is take already used names tbh....I can see it now...
Apple Genesis! Maybe even Apple Dreamcast! How about Apple64?

Yeah, they are marketing gods. If they make something like the Wii, it probably would sell quite handsomely. I don't know what kinda games would be on it though...or what developers would want to go with them...but I'm sure quite a few would wanna try it out.
