Jill Goldsmith, respected Wall Street reporter for Variety, has speculated that 2009 may see Disney buy out Electronic Arts. In a story based on interviews with a number of financial specialists in the field, Goldsmith looks at what the coming year may hold for major media conglomerates, saying; “Disney is seen as a buyer, with market speculation centering on videogame company Electronic Arts as a possible target.”
It’s a theory supported by Ben Fritz over at The Cutscene, who suggests that with the market as it is, 2009 may see many of the big media conglomerates taking major steps into the videogame industry. Fritz said, “The videogame business has been having problems, with growth slowing of late, but it’s still red hot compared to movies, TV, and music. And many videogame publishers, not just EA, have seen their stocks take major hits in the past six months, much more than the declines for big media shares. That means videogame publishers are more affordable for the conglomerates than they were a year ago. Which means we could just see a Disney-EA acquisition, or others like it, in 2009.”
Disney getting involved in a video gaming business won't make the business any meaningful. I can imagine the god-awful Jonas Brothers, Miley Cyrus, and the Cheetah Girls doing soundtracks for EA games and adding Disney characters in their games as well. This doesn't sound like a good idea. Let another gaming company buy out EA.

You do realize Disney Interactive have published some games like one of the best racing games last year in Pure right? And even with movies and stuff they have a bunch of branching companies that are not just kids cartoons and stuff only teen girls could possibly like. I mean Kill Bill for example is a gore fest and is technically a Disney film To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
If EA get bought out then realistically the only ones that could do it are Microsoft and Disney out of companies that already have their foot in the gaming industry. EA are the biggest publisher/developer in the industry and if their problems cause them to go under and get bought out then there is no chance a smaller publisher could scoop them up. While Microsoft and Disney are much more secure with huge incomes from other stuff.

That's right and the Kingdom Hearts franchise as well, but the rest of the games they released are not big hits.
It's labeled as a Miramax film, but you're right, the Walt Disney Company owns it.
It's pronounced mice Catalyst.
Assassin Jr.?
Is that you?

And when there is no hope,
"I'll smoke some crack, I'll shoot some dope!"
When theres no enemies,
"I sit and stare at my T.V.
and in my ignorance,
I'll be a slave and sycophant!"
