Circuit City, files for bankruptcy protection

Quote:
The No. 2 electronics retailer in America, Circuit City, filed for bankruptcy protection on Monday.

According to the company's Chapter 11 filing with the U.S. bankruptcy court in Richmond, Virginia, Circuit City, which has 566 operating stores in the U.S., will continue to do business and pay its workers while it restructures debt and its business operations.

Times are still tough!
The company I worked for did the same thing, and some how are still around several years later. So maybe they still have a chance...

Stocks at $.13 a share. I bought 870 of them. Total cost with trade fee was $123.05. Ridiculous. God I hope they have a strong reorg plan!

Re: Circuit City, files for bankruptcy protection

I just heard the Providence Place Mall is going bankrupt. I fucking wonder why. they don't have a store in that piece that I could buy something for under a hundred dollars.

But no.. the public are the idiots, right? It couldn't be that a place like that was never going to cut it no matter what they did??

Re: Circuit City, files for bankruptcy protection

Circuit City to close 155 stores, and possibly another 150 on top of that.

Quote:
While Circuit City has already announced plans to close 155 stores nationwide, a reliable industry source tells us that the company is looking to close another 150 stores—with that announcement possibly coming in as little as two weeks from now. As for which stores close, it'll be a simple question of which locations remaining have the worst profitability. Black Friday looks to be a large indicator of how this whole scenario will play out. More as we get it.
Timeline: How Circuit City Came Undone

Quote:
Bankruptcy is a time for reflection, we guess, so we put together a nice little time line of Circuit City's precipitous decline over the past 2 years. We begin our journey in March of 2007, when Circuit City announced that it was firing everyone who knew what 1080p meant so that they could hire cheaper labor...

Re: Circuit City, files for bankruptcy protection

My brother works at the Canadian Circuit City head offices. Except in Canada, they call it 'The Source', which is a terrible name.

Regardless, he has been sending out his resume like mad this week.

Hmm... is CC the store that sold all those gift cards and then wouldn't honor them? So, essentially you just bought a plastic card with a number on it?
