Save Windows XP!" is the rallying cry of Windows users dismayed by the needless bloat of Vista. But didn't everyone have the same critique of Windows XP when it first galumphed into public view like an unsteady rubber monster?
What did Vista get right? For starters, though the User Account Control feature is like an annoying little sister who constantly pokes you, it makes Vista more secure than XP. Vista also trounces XP in handling mobile de**vices, networking, multimedia files and photos. On top of that, it has a cleaner, more navigable interface -- one eerily reminiscent of a certain Mac operating system.

Re: Overrated: Windows XP; Underrated: Windows Vista
I refuse to go to Windows Vista. Ever notice how although you run the same apps over the years, your PC starts to come to a complete crawl? Why upgrade to a new OS when the old OS does you just fine. I don't use auto update, and I regularly clean my PC and it runs just like the day I bought it, but so many people I know that don't know how to clean up their pc's, constantly run updates, and upgrade to the latest OS versions... they end up having to purchase a new computer because all of those updates and added bulk just require more resources and stronger processors / more memory. Windows Vista, like all the other OS upgrades of course has new features, but how many will you actually use.. I'll stick with XP until either I have enough money to buy the latest and greatest computer, or I see a benefit in upgrading, but right now I don't see a added benefit for myself in going to Vista.
Re: Overrated: Windows XP; Underrated: Windows Vista
I had to get a new laptop because my old one was fucked in just about every way imaginable. I have had no problems with Vista thus far...(It's been about a year) I don't have a problem with it.

Re: Overrated: Windows XP; Underrated: Windows Vista
I've not had one issue with Vista other than backwards compatibility. I don't understand how people can fuck up their computers so bad though, it really doesn't make sense to me.

Re: Overrated: Windows XP; Underrated: Windows Vista
I use Vista on my Dell Laptop. I hate it so much that I moved to using a Mac. Every single computer I buy in the future, will also be a Mac, or at least will use the Mac operating system. I hope that someday down the road they will release the strangehold they have on their hardware. Until they do that though, I'll pay the premium to have an operating system that does the work for you.
Re: Overrated: Windows XP; Underrated: Windows Vista
Vista has gave me far less problems than XP and like it said people were bashing XP at one point too so it is the same old story. Vista is by far the best Windows OS I have used and the extra ram needed is only a problem if you are running a PC that can just handle XP which means it is time for an upgrade anyway To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. Re: Overrated: Windows XP; Underrated: Windows Vista
I think as far as security, and stablity goes, Vista wins hands down. In fact, I would even say that it rivals Linux to an extent. It still has some work to do to match up to the BSDs on reliability, but it's a HUGE improvement as far as those two aspects go.
From a user standpoint, the interface and usuability of it is just is a step down, even from the Windows 98/2000 operating systems. It has a very 'group think' interface, as it's rather cumbersome for the user, at least in my opinion.
