Ok.. so I bought a new laptop not long ago and it's running just fine, i love it.. but the reason I bought a new one was because I dropped my Dell on the floor, screen cracked, and a couple weeks later it stopped working entirely. I'm wondering.. it's been sitting around now for about 6 months or so.. should I try getting it fixed? Can it be fixed? How about going about it?
nah, i don't see a plug. I think it's probably going to be useless to get it repaired.. it looks like the keys and shit are ready to break off as well.
Fuck it. I just wanted to see if I could recover some files.

If you are having a "fuck it" attitude about the ol' rig, I'd take out useful components from it, such as ram, hard drive, etc. If you want to do this, I could easily run you through it on how if you don't know.

If you take out the hard drive, you can buy a hard drive enclosure for it eBay. I did it with one from my tower PC, and it works fine. You'd be able to get to all the files you want, that way.

Re: How to fix a broken laptop screen
^Quite right.
If you're just trying to salvage files, there shouldn't be any problem. Files on a hard drive are in no way connected to a monitor (I don't mean to sound condescending, but shouldn't that be obvious?).
A cracked screen shouldn't hinder you from being able to take out your hard drive and either put it in another PC, or from using a HD enclosure and accessing it via USB cables. I recommend going the enclosure route. It's pretty convenient actually. It's like having a 150GB flash drive.
