So...Went to a wedding reception on Saturday night. Left there, went to Wal Mart, and got RB2 at midnight. Game is awesome. Im sure most people who play the game already have it, but here is a brief review.
First off, Rock Band 2 isnt exactly a start from scrath sequel, mostly the same game with steroids, which is exactly what was needed. The venues from the last game make a comeback, but with better, crisper images, seemingly bigger sets (while being the same) and little tweaks. Plus a bunch of new venues (including one outdoor arena with a city skyline in the background. Looks awesome.
The gameplay is the same, but it seems to me like the window for hitting HO's/PO's has been reduced, meaning you have to be even more exact in your timing with those. Also, it almost seems like the charts themselves are a little bit more "tilted". So it seems a slight bit more like the notes are coming toward you, rather then from top to bottom. Its not drastic, but its enough for you to have to adjust your timing slightly.
The tracklist itself is great, and huge. There will be plenty lof songs that you dont care for (Im looking at you Cool For Cats) but there are plenty of songs that are amazing to play. Highlights for me...is Eye Of The Tiger (first song I went for), Battery, Aqualung, GO Your Own Way, Psycho Killer Im going to stop because thers probably about 30 of them.
As for the difficulty, some of theses songs are quite hard. Peace Sells is hard as hell, I feel like I dont even stand a chance playing Panic Attack. One thing thats really good is, the charting team for this setlist has a few new "techniques" that they throw at you alot. For instance, there are alot of songs that will have you strum a two note chord, immedialtey followed by a two chord hammer on, the first time I seen songs charted that way.
As for offline game modes, you got two. First of which you can play the Band World Tour alone, and its more or less the same right down to winning the van first and so on. But its expanded enough with new citites, venues, and more staff to hire so it lasts longer.
THe other (and the one that Ive been playing the most) is the Tour CHallenges. When you start, wou have one tier unlocked, and you can either do band challenges (with you and at least one other player) and then the solo guitar, drum, and vocal challenges. Playing these first challenges starts unlocking more challenges for that particular instrument. For Bass fans, you dont get your own category, but I have unlocked a few bass particular challenges in the guitar mode.
The challenge mode is the easiest way to unlock new songs, because each new Tier you unlock awards more songs. So buy the game, grab the guitar, and play the challenges with all RB 2 songs, and you will keep opening tiers and challenges featuring new songs.
I said it was going to be brief, and now when I look it def hasnt been. But so far, I think this game has lived up to the hype the fanbase has been pumping, and im super-satisfied with it.
