Reports confirm that E3 is slated to return in 2009, however it may be the event’s swan song. Gamespot’s Brendan Sinclair stated the following:
” … there are plans for at least one more E3. A representative with the event’s organizers at the Electronic Software Association affirmed that much for GameSpot today …”
The aforementioned ESA associate was then quoted saying:
“As we do every year, we’re beginning the process of surveying exhibitors and attendees to determine potential changes to the Summit … Once this is completed and shared with the ESA’s Board of Directors, we will make an announcement about the specifics of the 2009 E3 Media & Business Summit, which will occur.”
It appears that the once proud event may be on its last leg, and it is unclear just how much more verbal punishment the ESA is willing to tolerate before closing E3’s doors for good.
If this were to be true, then where do we go for up and coming games?

I think E3 has turned into more than just being about games. They have so much over-the-top crap that takes away from the games itself, it's a pain to watch. G4 had 3 hours of programming for 3 days on E3, and that made me want to rip my hair out. Good thing I have a DVR - I just fast forwarded to the parts I wanted to watch, which weren't very much of it.
Yeah, there's way too much BS in the coverage. I only wanted to see a few games, with Rock Band 2 being the main one. When G4's coverage showed Rock Band 2, not only did they stupidly try to fit in a live demo by Harmonix employees while another one tried to talk about the game, but they shut the demo off that the HMX people were going to do and threw the G4 hosts into the game. WTF.
As for the actual event, I don't know how it could be changed. The commercial-free MS, Sony, and Nintendo conferences were fine and were the best thing about E3. I think they just need to quit trying to cram a bunch of shit into a small window. Right when they would get into nice, meaty information about a game they'd throw the developers off the stage and go to commercial during the last few days of coverage. If anything, they should just keep the conferences from MS, Sony, and Nintendo; then let each of the developers have their own sufficient time and space to do their thing.
