I've had the ipod touch since late last year and I've already gone through 2 pairs of ear phones. Are they supposed to be this shitty? Is there anything anyone would recommend. A kid I know has a $100 pair of earphones, but that seems excessive.
I bought a pair of Phillips headphones from Target. They're pretty pimp. They were like $39, but I have had them for probably close to a year, and they seem to be going without a problem.
Yeah, iPod headphones are pretty much known to be the worst on the market to everyone.
I use a pair of Sony headphones with my iPod and they were pretty reasonable, near £20 I believe, which is what, $40? But they last a helluva lot longer and give out a much louder sound than iPod ones.

Re: ipod's piece of sh*t earphones
I always just assumed people only use the iPod earbuds because the white cord has become somewhat of a fashion accessory. It's not as if they actually produce good sound. Get Sony earbuds. They're much better, and cheaper.
Unfortunately, there is little point having an i-pod if you just use the headphones that came with it.
I'm with Durden on this.
Sennheiser are the best earphones to have as the ipod ones are crap, i've had 3 pairs now and all have done the job but give it time and they will fall appart.

Mine have lasted about a year and a half, but they are beginning to wear. They get used, what with the commute and the gym, at least two hours a day
I use Phillips but not because the ipod ones are crap but instead because they are in ear. I had surgery on one of my right ear quite a few years ago now & as a result the ear piece wont fit into my ear so i use the over the ear one's.
