I dont like the MGS games, but 100 dollars for 40 gigs more is a pretty good price, plus you get a game in that, so if you take that into account, the game costs more then the memory upgrade that you would get, which is a good thing. If I didn't have a PS3, I would go for the 80 gig. Plus, 40 gig now wont be able to hold much games, since each game is nearing about 8 or 9 gigs. So, to sum it all up, pay the extra 100 for the mem and the game.

The 80 gig for sure. I own the eighty gig and i got a friend who lives bout 10 minutes down the road who has the forty and in all honesty his seems a little slower. Maybe he has more memory taken up then me but i was playing SVR08 on his and it just seemed slower. Plus Metal gear solid and such a bad game.
With the game installs your space can run out faster than you would think so bigger is better. Unlike the 360 where you have to be buying a ton of XBLA games, DLC for games and stuff like that to need the larger HDD. It isn't nearly as bad as Deuce makes it sound though since only a couple of games have even reached around the 5GB install mark let alone most needing 8-9GB installs. Going to guess he is thinking what PC installs are around these days and thinking the same applies to PS3 or something. But PS3 installs are only partial installs to help loading times.
Although if you didn't care about playing PS2 games which as mentioned the 40GB can't do then in some ways it would make more sense to go 40GB and then put the money saved toward an even larger HDD. But if you do want MGSIV then you are really not saving much money since you would have to buy that with the 40GB and it isn't like you can't upgrade the HDD later if needed on the 80GB as well. Sooooo 80GB MGSIV Bundle it is. Oh and don't wait too long if possible because a lot of people seem to be having a hell of a time finding the MGSIV bundle so you are lucky that you saw it.

See if you can cut them a deal to get a different game. MGS is pretty new so they would probably go for it if the game you want is lower in price than MGS would be.
Other than the game, easily the 80GB. If you dont install the games on the system, you should'nt run out of space anytime soon.

It is packaged in the box and the only model of the 80GB available right now not a deal Gamestop have to offer another game. At most they would let somebody trade it in used while offering their usual pathetic trade-in price even if they didn't open it because like any game bundled in with a console they couldn't sell it new due to how it is packaged. But why would anybody want a PS3 and not want MGSIV anyway? I even think it is a great game and I didn't like the series prior to IV. You also get Pain for free so there is another $10 value. Oh and the MGSIV bundle has the Dual Shock 3 while the 40GB doesn't have the Dual Shock 3. But all of that stuff can be purchased or upgraded later if one didn't care to get it right away so like mentioned the biggest deciding factor should be wanting to play PS2 games vs not wanting to play PS2 games. Since unlike the other stuff if you get a 40GB there is no upgrading later to be able to play PS2 games.
Oh and most games are now requiring installs and not optional like earlier games so the only way to not install games is to not play games. But a more casual gamer that isn't going to have many installs wouldn't need to worry so it depends on gaming habits. For me my 60GB HDD is to the point where I need to upgrade after only a little more than a year. While I can fit 33 PS Store downloaded games, 1 demo, 2 episodes of Qore, some DLC (None of which top the 200MB mark), a few themes and the MGSIV database I am stuck battling with space due to the game installs that I have to keep deleting and installing again. Now this doesn't seem too bad and like I said is more than a more casual gamer will be putting on it but when compared to what I can get on the 360 while using less than 40GB compared to having to delete stuff to be able to fit other stuff on the PS3 60GB HDD it shows just how much those game installs can use up. Because without game installs on the 360 I have 6 demo, 141 XBLA games, a lot more DLC with much larger file sizes (Up to the 2GB range) and a bunch of themes and gamerpics that would surprise you how they add up in size. Also unlike the PS3 where I can't leave trailers and stuff on it I have around 3GB of movies on the 360 HDD right now.
Don't get me wrong though since I do like the game installs improving loading times and stuff even if they are a space killer To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
