Today Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer of Microsoft revealed additional information on Windows Seven. Very creative name - hopefully by the time they're finished polishing it off, they'll call it Windows S3ven. However as they roll out Seven, Vista has hardly captivated the consumer market. Even now, over a year after it launched retailers are still looking for loopholes to sell Windows XP. Was it that XP was that good? XP was a great operating system. There were however numerous improvements to build on it. With a multitude of Web 2.0 technologies being released Microsoft could have incorporated these into Vista. Unfortunately, they were not. Nor were there a whole lot of new features at all. They missed the boat by a lot.
Did Microsoft fail though? Well, judging by the numbers there were a large amount of people who converted to Mac, like myself, because of Microsoft's inability to take advantage of up and coming technology. I would not go as far as to call Vista a failure though. I would call it a warning; a warning to Microsoft that it's not immune; a warning that the consumer is fickle, and that there are other respectable choices out there. Any subsequent releases of the quality of Vista, would be a failure; a failure that would be very deleterious to the company.
What caused Vista though? I strongly believe that Microsoft didn't listen to it's primary consumer; the home user. Instead, Microsoft heard the cries for help from the power users, who wanted control over their PC, who wanted additional security measures. And finally, Microsoft heard from the software manufacturers who wanted advanced piracy protection. Did Microsoft accomplish these tasks? Very much so. They were extremely successful at meetings these demands, and that is why at this point in time, I can't call Vista a failure.
I've always wondered what exactly is "wrong" with Vista. I've never had an issue. I never had an issue with XP. Are we talking about features that the casual user would never use, or something else?
Either way, if I want.. I can go out and buy a Mac if this gives me shit.
I bought a new printer and can't get the thing to work right because it is was no compatible with Vista straight out of the box. HP has remotely accessed it like 10 times to fix it and it still doesn't work right. It re-installs every time I try to print something. A major pain.
I have also had a lot of trouble with Windows Media Player not playing certain videos and such. I don't know if that has anything to do with Vista or not.

That's a WMP problem. I just use WMPC for that.

I've just checked for all the problems ive had in the last month.
Window's Explorer has crashed NINE times.
WMP has frozen/crashed twice.
i-tunes once.
GIMP once.
Blaze Media Pro twice.
I know not all ofthem are due to Vista but im blaming it anyway To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

It isn't a failure. It is just too early on for it to take over just like what happened with XP and other operating systems as mentioned. Plus it doesn't help that so many people are so pathetically misinformed about Vista and one moronic posting on the internet leads to others thinking the same. It is by far by best Windows I have ever used. Even after multiple service packs I still have more errors and issues with the other PC's using XP than I have with this one using Vista and have grown to hate XP to the point I can't stand using it even briefly. And I don't know why people think it is bad for gaming. First of all it has brought the future of PC gaming in DX10 with it and with how it can handle ram and stuff better it is better for gaming. People just need to realize they will need more ram with Vista than they did with XP. And as for games and programs that don't work with it. I have only ever ran into a problem with one really old PC game I wouldn't have even wanted to play so I am not losing sleep over it.

Sounds like you probably need a Vista codec pack such as this..... To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
