GameDaily BIZ has discovered that Electronic Arts is preparing to announce recently retired Green Bay Packers quarterback and three-time AP MVP Brett Favre as the cover athlete for the upcoming Madden NFL 09, which is slated to hit store shelves on August 12.
According to the To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. for Madden NFL 09, the cover athlete is expected to be announced on April 25. For the past few years, EA has used late-night shows to announce the Madden cover. Last year Jimmy Kimmel's show was used to announce Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young for Madden 08. Choosing a retired player to cover the game is certainly an interesting choice, but this year's Madden represents the 20th anniversary of the popular football franchise, so perhaps EA wanted to do something unique. And Favre is unquestionably one of the best to ever play the game, leading the Packers to two Super Bowls, in addition to compiling records for most career NFL touchdown passes, most career NFL passing yards, most career pass completions, and most career victories as a starting quarterback, so it's hard to argue with EA's choice.
At least Favre can't be affected by the dreaded Madden cover curse, unless of course his retirement package suddenly falls apart...
We've pinged EA for confirmation and are still waiting to hear back.
Why dont we just rename it the "National Favre League"?
Instead of calling them Touchdowns, we'll call them "Favredowns"
All QBs will be measured as a fraction of Brett Favre. For example "Peyton Manning is 9/10ths of a Favre, but David Garrard is only half of a Favre". No QB will be able to attain a rating of 1 whole Favre
All teams must change their name in order to have some combination of the letters B-R-E-T-T-F-A-V-R-E in it.
Sports Illustrated will change its name to Favre Illustrated. Peter King will be its only writer.
Literally, all the players in Madden 09 will be named "Brett Favre". They will have ratings of 100 in every category, except for toughness, because there is no scale large enough to measure Brett Favre's toughness.
And the players in the game certainly will NOT be addicted to painkillers, they will not drink so much on the night before a game that they vomit on the sideline, and they will NOT interfere with their teammate's contract negotiations. And if any of these events do transpire, everyone will sweep them under the rug and talk about how great a guy the player is.
I've got my fingers crossed...

I love your ideas. I've written to EA about this to see if they can get the "Brett Favre" special edition Madden 09 with all of those tremendous features.
