Feb. 9, 2007—Gears of War put a hurt on the opposition at the 10th annual Interactive Achievement Awards, hosted by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences. Gears was the night's big winner, bringing home eight awards in a head-to-head battle with the year's top games.
The list of awards won by Epic's runaway hit was long and varied, and included the following:
* Overall Game of the Year
* Console Game of the Year
* Outstanding Achievement in Animation
* Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction
* Outstanding Achievement in Online Game Play
* Outstanding Achievement in Visual Engineering
* Outstanding Character Performance (Male)
* Action/Adventure Game of the Year
When accepting the award for Outstanding Achievement in Online Play, Cliffy B. made sure to note the outstanding online capabilities of Xbox LIVE®. No doubt that was an awkward moment for Phil Harrison, President of Sony's Worldwide Studios, who was presenting the award.
