Rep Power: 4 ![]() | TIME: PS3 Doesn't Live Up to Hype http://www.time.com/time/magazine/ar...570831,00.html TIME Magazine has deemed the PlayStation 3 as one of 2006’s five phenomena that didn’t live up to the hype. The article from the December 25 issue of time begins, “Beware all hype. Here are five phenomena that captivated the media for a spell, then turned out to be less than huge.” It continued to list Samuel L. Jackson’s cheesy Snakes on a Plane film, the canned Fox TV interview with O.J. Simpson about his sick fictional recounting of the murder of his wife and her friend in his book, “If I did it,” the TV show Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and downhill skier bad boy Bode Miller. And then there’s the entry for the PS3: “The big story in computer games this year was HOW TO BLOW A HUGE LEAD, by Sony [emphasis TIME’s]. Its PlayStation 2 was the champ in the last round of the console wars. This time Sony bet on a chip called the Cell and a disc format called Blu-ray. They're probably awesome, but how would anybody know? The PS3 is hideously expensive--it goes for up to $600--and Sony manufactured only a piddling few hundred thousand for the U.S., fewer for Japan. Plus it's hard to write games for; the launch titles were lame. You know you're in trouble when you get beat by something called a Wii.” Man even thou i prefer the 360 over this i was really hoping that sony would for once walk the walk

Rep Power: 6 ![]() | Re: TIME: PS3 Doesn't Live Up to Hype I still don't understand why everyone is doing PS3 vs. Wii articles. What about 360? Besides that the Wii isn't exactly next-gen. Funny how a "current-gen" is beating a PS3 though. Wish I could find me a Wii. |

Rep Power: 12 ![]() | Re: TIME: PS3 Doesn't Live Up to Hype Wii seems cool but not the kind to just chill n play for hours. But its better than the PS3 which is just a upgraded PS2. Sony can't ever do anything revolutionary can they? I'll buy myself a 360 in February when the price drops to 300. ![]() |

Wii's graphics and such may not be "next-gen" but it is still a "next-gen" system because it is in the generation after the PS2, Xbox and GCN. Also one the reasons as to why the PS3 is getting "beat" by the Wii is because there isn't enough supply of PS3s. Still, the demand for both systems are very high. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for the Wii. In fact, I'm planning on buying one this week/weekend, if I can find one... ![]()

Rep Power: 6 ![]() | Re: TIME: PS3 Doesn't Live Up to Hype Supply is an excuse, they have had extra time to have a decent supply. Other than that, the only reason most of the PS3s were bought in the first place were to be sold on ebay. The newspaper for the town I live in did an article about people waiting in line for the PS3. They did a poll of everyone and 100% of the people were buying it to sell on ebay. |

Rep Power: 4 ![]() | Re: TIME: PS3 Doesn't Live Up to Hype end of the day thou everyone knows that 360 and ps3 are the real contenders. i said it for a longgggggggg time that ps3 was overhyped and now that games are being put side to side with the 360 and the 360 comming out on top in all comparisions(even by the sony fan boy driven mag EGM) Reason sony domiated the market was simply they had great timing and marketing on top with exclusives cause noone wanted to risk making games for the xbox 1, but now that xbox is a extablished player developers are not going to go exclusive anymore with all their games. Only system you will be able to play GTA,Halo,Devil may cry, resident evil, assasins creed, splinter cell5,and after 6 months of ps3 launch Metal gear solid 5 is on the xbox 360.only real reason to get a ps3 now is just got grand turismo and god of war and maybe final fantsy
