Grand Theft Auto IV coming to 360, PS3 in 2007

[UPDATE] Microsoft confirms next Grand Theft Auto is coming to Xbox 360 in October 2007; Rockstar Games confirms simultaneous launch on PS3.

LOS ANGELES--In one of the most shocking announcements at E3, Microsoft revealed that it quite literally stole away some of Sony's audience. One of the PlayStation's most notoriously popular franchises, the Grand Theft Auto series, is confirmed to be coming to the Xbox 360. Previous editions of GTA were released exclusively on the PlayStation 2 in October, and were later ported to the Xbox. Now we know that Grand Theft Auto 4 will be hitting the Xbox 360 on "day one," alongside the PlayStation 3 version of the game.

At today's Microsoft pre-E3 conference, Peter Moore pulled back his right shirt sleeve and revealed the familiar Halo 2 logo. Duping the audience into thinking that a new Halo was about to be announced, the Englishman then pulled back his left shirt sleeve, which revealed a tattoo that showed a Grand Theft Auto IV logo.

Grand Theft Auto IV will be available on October 16, 2007, in North America, and October 19 in Europe.

Moore did announce that Microsoft and Rockstar have signed an exclusive agreement to provide episodic content via Xbox Live, though he did not specifically limit the content to GTAIV.

Following the announcement during the Microsoft press conference, Rockstar Games issued a press release confirming that GTAIV would be hitting both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 simultaneously in the fall of 2007. The brief announcement specifically confirms that Scotland-based Rockstar North, creators of the previous GTA titles, will be developing the game.

Ahh, looks like my system choice has been confirmed. Having this game 6 months before Sony will make the Xbox 360 the better system to most people, myself included. Now all I gotta do is save up enough money over the summer to buy myself a 360.

Xbox doesn't deserve to have a game of this caliber at the same time as Sony. True.

If it costs the supposed 1,000 dollars to get a PS3 with a few games, controllers, and other accessories...I'm definitely getting the 360.

Especially since GTA is going to be released at the same time.

There is nothing on PS that interests me now, SVR and GTA and now exclusive to XBox 360 as well. Wait, only thing left that interests me on PS is God of War. Which is coming out on PS2 so that doesn't help out PS3. By the time I play the GoW 2, I'll probably not bother with GoW3 on PS3.

I agree with you Brett. GoW 2 looks like it will be good but a 3rd game of it probably won't be worth it.

Its been on the Xbox for a few years now aswell but not on the same day as its Sony release. I'm glad its on both systems because now I won't have to pay $600 for one game.

Just because you're a sony fanboy and don't want to admit that they're in a downward spiral doesn't mean it shouldn't be released on other systems. If Sony had announced the game the day before this wouldn't of been as big of a shock.
