So I got my 360 after months and months of wanting one so badly. Now that I have one I find myself incredibly critical of games and I get bored from them very easily.
Sports games like Madden are too easy (I like to do the franchise modes for these types of games) and most first person shooters are too primitive for me. I almost feel like the Nintendo 64 was a better system than 360 is. Its like its TOO detailed now.
Does that makes sense? Or are my 33 years finallly catching up to me? For those who don't know me in real life. (like just about everyone)......I spent hours apon end each week in an arcade (yeah, they actually used to be quite popular) and actually worked in one for two years just to play games for free.
I had a MUCH better time back then playing games and now I just feel like I am going through the motions. It is my age, or are these games all graphics and bells and whistles with little substance?
Riddle me this

Well, I am 25, but I can share my thoughts on this.
As a teenager, I was addicted to video games. Whenever I got home from school, my brother and I would fight over who got to play the Sega or Nintendo first. Whenever I built up enough allowance to buy something, it was always a video game on my mind. We would also go to the rental store every Friday night and rent a game or two that would last us through the weekend.
When I got my first job, I saved up money, and the first major purchase I bought was a Nintendo 64, three extra controllers, and a ton of games. Hey, for a 15 year old that was a big purchase. Video games were all that was ever on my mind as a kid.
As I started college though, my interest in them waned. I didn't own a PS2, and I had an Xbox but I was growing tired of it. This was also around the time I got a girlfriend, so all my free time became devoted to being with her. She wasn't a big gamer, but she would sit and watch me play for a bit, but I could always tell she wanted to do something else. So I would quickly shut it off.
Now I'm 25, living with my wife, and we have the current systems: 360, PS2, Wii. She actually enjoys playing them more now, so I am able to play more as well. We'll play Wii games together, and she'll help me play Super Mario Galaxy.
Once again, I'm starting to read up about upcoming games, and reading reviews, buying games again. This has all started back up in the past few months. So, to conclude....I think I am actually growing back into gaming. Ha.
Gamers Anonymous? Hi I'm Chad and I play video games.
Anyway ya alot of games are just too damn boring, don't follow the story (SvR08, AWESOME EXAMPLE) or too easy to beat. I'm 31 and just not into games like I was 10+ years ago. Arcades were about an hour from where I lived in the mall and it was like the highlight of a few months. I lived in the woods and it felt like every1 around me didn't know how to spell Nintendo let alone own one. Plus they called INTENDO....IDIOTS!
I got a 360 and a PS2 and obviously love the 360 cuz of the games and storage I got with it. Graphics are twice as good but some of the games still lack the interest value. We should come together brothers and sisters and together we can unite and make the best damn video game EVERRRR!!

If you were on a bus full of gay guys would you get off?
I used to play quite a bit back in the NES and SNES days. I had a regular Playstation as well. After that I lost interest in the games all together. I just like sports games for the most part and I do not have the patience for RPG's.
So I guess you could say that I kind of grew out gaming with age as well.

No.. this happens to me as well, but the trick for me is to go away for a while and come back to it. The newer games, some of them, are insane.. very good.. very intense, it just takes a while to really get into. I can't sit there and play a video game for 10 hours straight anymore, but I can play for a couple hours and then take a couple days off from it. More enjoyable me thinks.
Yeah, I might be only 18 but I've grown out of gaming a bit now too. But I find Blade's mentioned approach works very well. I don't buy that many games anymore, but when I do I play it for two or three hours and then leave it a day or two, and continue on like that.
Mass Effect is the first game on the 360 that's got me pretty hooked though.

i just made a thread related to this. it's because video games are way easier than what they used to be. i mean with a game like super mario bros., if u beat that it pretty much has to be in one sitting unless you know some sort of code so when u do beat it u get a rush of accomplishment but on these newer games when u save u just dont get that anymore. ur just like oh i finally beat it....now what. that has ruined the fun factor alot i think.
>.> Single player games will get boring. Your imagination can only take one so far. Having games like Goldeneye, 4 controllers, and some plants, when you light them on fire, and have Total Nonstop Action with pistols, rocket launchers, proximity mines, the golden gun.....odd job, and so on.

Then there's halo....but i have no xbox live. so there's no Honda. The godfather free roam can get boring because there isn't much cars to choose from to outrun the po pos.The mission story line cut scenes are a nice add one looking from a different view from the movie. you know when Mikey wanted to take out the fuzz after having dinner? You get to place the gun behind the toilet. i liked that part of the game.
I thought i was going to be heavily into Halo 3 but it's not the golden egg i was looking for in a game. Without my cousin there not playing with four players.....it's not the same anymore. Get games where you're not used to the genre. Like Ninja Gaiden. I have played the 360 version but when i played it on the original for the first time 2 years ago...i was hooked. Games like that will keep your gaming ego down.

I don't know what to say Simon, it probably is your age >.>
I mainly get a thrill out of seeing "myself" in these games. I can imagine at even Jayman's age(25) I might grow tired of this. But this is where I get my thrills. Like Franchise mode, I may not always do what's best for the team, I do what I would do. That, and I guess with ADD I have a nice amount of games to keep me occupied. You gotta find the little things in the game to enjoy.
Like even though the cutscenes are wretched, and the storyline is a massive failure, SDvR08 entertains me, because I never grow tired of seeing myself in the ring in a Fatal Four Way against Batista/Taker/Cena for the WWE Championship.
Or NCAA, There's 119 schools, I still have 56 20-year dynasties to complete. I still have to play a Campus Legend mode, which is quite bare T.T, for 35 teams.
And like )85( said, when get online it adds a wholenother dimension to gaming. I love going online and playing games with/against Lemonz, Jak0, and my friends from HS and some buddies from College. It's just a blast and most of us have a great time.
I guess, I don't know, you don't seem like the "See yourself in action" type of guy so I don't know what to really tell ya.... Old man.

wait are you saying Magic Johnson is black, has AIDS and has it better than ME?
Simon, what difficulty level do you play Madden on?
I found that when I play on All-Pro (the second highest difficulty level), i win every game by like 40 points and it's not fun. So now I started playing on All-Madden (the highest difficulty) and it's REALLY hard. Like, I've broken two controllers in frustration at some of the bullshit the computer pulls.
If you're not playing Madden on the highest difficulty level, try moving up a level. That will make the game much more fun
