Paramount studios is poised to drop its support of the high-definition DVD (HD DVD) format after Warner Bros studio said it would back the competing Blu-ray format, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday. The loss of support from Paramount, which is owned by Viacom Inc, would likely deal the final blow to the HD DVD format backed by Toshiba Corp and put an end to the format war, the newspaper said on its Web site. Time Warner Inc’s Warner Bros studio on Friday said it would exclusively release high-definition DVDs in Sony Corp’s Blu-ray format, marking a major setback to the HD DVD camp.
Blu-ray discs outsold HD DVD by nearly two-to-one in the United States last year, but HD DVD had secured major allies in August when Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc said they would go exclusively with HD DVD. But Paramount is understood to have a clause in its contract with the HD DVD camp that would allow it to change sides if Warner Bros backed Blu-ray, the Financial Times said, citing people familiar with the situation. However, Paramount spokeswoman denied this news as speculative with “Paramount’s current plan is to continue to support the HD DVD format”.
True that, but in a related story.. Samsung just debuted a new player that will support both Hi-Def formats and regular DVDs and the price is around $600. Expensive yes, but pretty cool. PS3 is looking like a bargain right now if this news does indeed kill HD-DVD.
my HD-DvD player was about 300 bucks(toshiba) and i saw it at walmart a month ago on clearance for 98 dollars. LG makes a player that plays both types and its about a thousand dollars.
i only bought 3 hd dvd's cuz i wanted to see who won before i got all crazy into hd dvd and then had no use for it later
who wants to buy my hd dvd player, i swear its safe To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
If that was supposed to be asking where porn would be going now if Blu-Ray wins then...

Leading Porn Studio Announces 8 Blu-ray Titles
Digital Playground influenced by PlayStation 3 owners looking for titles on Blu-ray.
Digital Playground, the pornography studio which recently said it would be shipping Blu-ray discs despite initially choosing HD DVD, has announced eight titles it will be releasing on Blu-ray in February.
“Pirates,” the first Blu-ray title from Digital Playground, shipped on January 4 and will be available on January 11, the company says.
The next eight titles to be released are: “Island Fever 4,” “Babysitters,” “Island Fever 3,” “Jack’s Teen America 3,” “Jesse Jane: Sexual Freak,” “Hush,” “Contract Star” and “Jesse Jane in Pink.”
Joone, the founder of Digital Playground, says that he was influenced by PlayStation 3 owners asking when their content would be available on Blu-ray.
“A lot of people were emailing that bought a PlayStation and they were basically saying, ‘When are you guys going to release Blu-ray?’ They really have no preference in format yet because it’s so new. When it comes down to image quality, there is no difference between the two,” he told CE Pro last month.
I guess it’s not just the high-end home theater products that PS3 owners are interested in.
Everybody including the porn industry are jumping off the sinking ship that is HD-DVD. It was obvious months ago that Blu-Ray would win and now it finally seems this moronic format war is ending. There is only so longer the HD-DVD promotions group can try to hang on to their last bit of hope and drag this on more than it needs to be. They should just do what is best for the consumer and toss in the towel.
One title away from my 60th Blu-Ray movie so I am on a faster pace to 100 Blu-Rays than I was to 100 DVD's. And I am loving it To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
