I play sports games almost exclusively (mainly NCAA football), but wouldn't mind branching out a bit. Generally speaking, what are the prices of the next-gen systems, and what are some pro's and con's of each?
Also, I think I've seen different "versions" of XBox 360s... What's up with that?
Keep in mind: I'm not a hardcore gamer or anything, so I don't see myself playing online a lot or using headsets or any of that stuff...
The Nintendo Wii is quite different then any other system out there in which your movement with the paddle directly results in how your characters move within the game. It's not a great system for sports though, quite frustrating, and it has a lot of games that while fun, could be considered kiddie as well. Price - $250
The X-Box 360 has two versions, one with a hard drive and one without.. you'll want the one that has one. The X-Box has all the sports games you love and is the premier system in shooters. Such games as Halo 3 and Gears of War are VERY popular. Price - maybe $400 depending on which games come with it.
The PS3 is lacking in "exclusive" titles right now, which means that the X-Box has all the titles that are on the PS3 but also their own.. the PS3 should catch up a bit in this regard though in the coming year. They have all the sports games and they also have a built-in Blu Ray for high definition movies. Price - $500
The 360 also has the Halo 3 edition, and the Elite edition, along with the Core and Premium. Just ignore the Halo 3 edition... just more a collectible.
The Elite Edition though has everything the Premium edition has, along with a significantly larger hard drive, and an HDMI port. If you can afford it, Elite is the way to go as HDMI is MUCH better than Compononent and Composite (those red, yellow and white cables).
XBOX 360 Elite .. It's what I have, and I too, have only ever invested in sports games such as EASports Live, NHL, Madden, TontHawk/Skate, and a SpiderMan game, and I had SDvsRAW07 rented for 7 months .. it's great. (not to mention ROckBand that i will have in three weeks). Although I would much rather use a XBOX than any PS2/3, my Premium did die on me a few months ago, but my replacement ELITE is doing honors !!
PS: Whatever you choose, you much purchase the Special Edition Rock Band game/equipment .. it's aaamazing.
