Help Me Pick My External Hard Drive

So when i get paid next i shall be investing in a external hard drive for my pc and was wondering which is best?

I've seen a couple like these:

But i'd like a little advice.

It will be mainly for storing music and files whilst i switch onto Service Pack 2 from windows but i'll probably keep everything on it once i have it.

Seagate is best and most reliable imo and experience.

Seagate, & Hitachi are the front runners. Usually if they're bad, they're bad right out of the box. You'll be able to tell by the slow transfers, and frequent lockups.

I used to like Western Digital, until 4 of those fuckers kept me up for about 72 hours straight. Seriously, have you ever had 3 bad hard drives in a row? (The first worked good for about .... 5 months).

On a side note, Maxtor was purchased by Seagate earlier this year. I don't know if it's effected quality much. They weren't bad prior to the purchase.

Maxtor was a great company in my experience.

And I have to agree with Terry here...every Western Digital product i've bought was cheaply made and failed quickly.

I just picked up a 200 gig Maxtor at Radio Shack for $60 US. It's usb connect. Good buy, fast, extra storage.
