It isn't awful but not great either. Has some bad glitches and other annoyances (Like the tennis ball being 2x the size a tennis ball should be) which hurt the game. Also just doesn't do anything new really and feels like the same game it was back on the Dreamcast which is still fun but some changes at this point would be nice. If you like the series enough it is worth it but if you are not a big fan best to just stick with or get the cheaper Virtua Tennis 3.
