I have been looking at purchasing one for the past few months now. There's a fairly large selection of exclusive games now, and the reliability should be greatly increased now that the production has been underway for quite some time. But I have heard that they're going to be dropping in price to about $499 soon. Is it really that necessary get one, or should I wait?
I really like the included bonus of the blu-ray player. Does it produce as good of video as a stand alone player would? Also, would I need to get the blu-ray controller, or is that just one of those unneeded accessories?

The big question is.... do you have a 360? I have been really impressed with PS3 but still find myself without a lot to buy for exclusives. So if you have a 360 then I would wait until later this year or early next year to get a PS3 and maybe by then there will be a price drop but nothing is official about that. Also you don't need to worry too much about reliabilty since the general consensus is that it is actually the most reliable console this gen with Wii in the middle and 360 being considered the worst by far. But like I said it is a good console that I am really enjoying and if you don't have a 360 already then the value goes way up by adding games like Oblivion to your choices.
As for the Blu-Ray player it seems like a good player to me. A lot of reviews based on the Blu-Ray movie aspect from sites that review Blu-Ray players have actually said they feel it is better than most standalone players right now. Been getting a lot of use out of it myself and stuff like the Planet Earth collection looks amazing on Blu-Ray To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. Slick ... I may hold off until the price change, or until someone runs a good special. Circuit City is doing a free wireless controller right now, but that's not all too motivating.
I picked one up Friday. I love this system. I've gotta say, the 360 really doesn't even compare. The graphics are so much better it's sickening. I only bought two games, MLB 2k7 & Resistance: Fall of Man. I haven't opened MLB yet, since Resistance is fucking amazing. Nor have I really slept at all.
I watched one DVD movie on the system too. It seems to upscale a helluva lot better than my LG DVD Upconverting player.
The PS3, despite the high price tag, is a must buy.
The Ps3 is a piece of shit just to be honest, I finally played one at EB games yesterday and I have to say it just felt horrible. The Controller felt hollow, it ran kind of choppy Grahpics wise. Considering how the Price drop is a farce and the Price Drop was on a Model no longer in production...The Ps3 isnt worth it if you have a 360 imo
Maybe it was just the one I played but it just felt odd, I usually got very good reviews of the PS3 (Im going to pick one up for Tekken in like 2 years anyways), Hopefully it was just the store system and they don`t all run like that.
