Maybe it was the purple hue, maybe the lackluster 3rd party game catalog, or perhaps the non-standard disc size and missing DVD playback did it in, but for whatever reason Nintendo's 6th generation console never really caught on, and now the To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. Nintendo of America's VP of marketing and corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplin, pulled double duty at a recent Q&A session, and confirmed the cease of production: "Are we producing any more GameCubes? No," said Kaplin. "But do we have the inventory there for people to still purchase? Yes." She says the console has moved past the point of being for core gamers, but the remaining inventory should still be plenty desirable for a Family's First Console, thanks to the dirt cheap pricetag and decent catalog. On the other end of Nintendo's console front, the To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. Re: GameCube calls it quits -- you're on your own now, Wii
Wii is #1 in every region, so it's no big deal.
GameCube was a great system that produced some of the best games of last gen, and it's a shame the technologically inferior PS2 got so many more games.
Re: GameCube calls it quits -- you're on your own now, Wii
Nintendo really needs to develop something longterm or come out with a Wii 2.0. It's an innovative concept, and it's priced right, but it's developed as a short term fix. Not even Xbox 360 can cope with the PS3. In the next year, year 1/2 you will see the Wii fall off the face of the Earth, while the 360 falls into a distant 2nd and the PS3 shows it's dominance.
Re: GameCube calls it quits -- you're on your own now, Wii
Hahaha, what is your basis for that Terry? Wii is dominating in every region (outselling PS3 2:1 in North America and 4:1 in Japan). Sony can't afford to drop the price anytime soon since they are already losing hundreds of dollars per system, and the software sales aren't there to make up for it.
The PS3 and PSP have shown that the value of the PlayStation brand has dropped, and if anything the PS3 has a serious chance at ending up dead last when this gen is over (maybe 2nd, but only because of Japan). Every week the Wii continues to increase its lead over the PS3 and is quicky erasing Xbox 360's lead (in 3 months the Wii has sold half of what Xbox 360 has done in 15 months).
Re: GameCube calls it quits -- you're on your own now, Wii
The Wii is a novelty console. The staying power of the 360 is far and away better. I don't see ps3 "dominating until they can get some decent games and drop the price a bit.

Exactly, the Wii is a novelty - a secondary system, at best. If you want the best gaming, you're going to go with the PS3 or Xbox 360. More than likely, with the games coming out for the PS3, and overall shear power that overwhelms the 360 and Gamecube 1.5 (Wii), it will dominate the market.
Re: GameCube calls it quits -- you're on your own now, Wii
Yes, the Wii is great to break out when you want that interactive feel to change things up. It goes great with xbox 360 and it provides something totally different. On the topic of PS3 please share with me the games that are coming out that'll make me, or any consumer want one.
Re: GameCube calls it quits -- you're on your own now, Wii
You guys sound exactly like the diluted fanboys that said PSP would crush the DS.
Wii is red hot, it's dominating in every region of the world (and would be selling even more, but Nintendo is selling them faster than they can ship them). Here's how I see it going down:
Xbox 360 will end up second worldwide (close third in Europe and distant Japan, second/MAYBE first in North America
PlayStation 3 will be close third worldwide (second in Europe and Japan, third in North America)
Wii will end up in first worldwide (close first in Europe, easy first in Japan, either barely winning North America or a close second)
Xbox 360: 36 million
PS3: 28 million (in 5 years, more if they really do a 10 year span)
Wii: 41 million
Edit: I am not saying the Xbox 360 isn't a great system, but it's more of a hardcore gamer system while the Wii is a general gamer system (i.e. Xbox 360 owners would be more likely to buy a Wii than a Wii owner would be to buy and Xbox 360). I also think that Wii and even the Xbox 360 will be far ahead in total install base by the time the big PS3 titles come out to make a difference (sorta like when GameCube and Xbox got big titles in 2004-2005, they helped but didn't make a big difference).
Re: GameCube calls it quits -- you're on your own now, Wii
I think the novelty of the Wii will wear off.
I think the XBox 360 will win the war.
Just my opinion.
