360 tops holiday sales

CNBC has reported that preliminary reports from market analyst NPD have indicated that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 was the best-selling console in the United States this holiday season. According to the early numbers, about 2 million Xbox 360s were sold in the U.S. from November until December 25. Nintendo’s Wii sold about 1.8 million units. Despite manufacturing shortages, Sony sold about 750,000 PlayStation 3 systems during that time period.

Complete figures should be released later this month, and we’ll keep you posted.

To be fair....the Wii was hard to find and not always avaialable to be bought. All that were shipped and in stores were sold. You could walk in to any store at any time and buy the 360, from what I saw.

Ps3 was avaialable, the only console to have an argument would be wii... PS3's were basically avaialable through the holidays and are now starting to collect dust...(around here anyway) Every store has some and more and more are coming in without very many being sold.

Ya, last week I went to bestbuy to line up for 25 Wii's. I was number 28. There were 62 PS3's available and not one person was there for one. I bought a 360 instead.

The PS3 has a bundle with $850 Canadian... wtf.

over priced, especially now, but even when it has a decent line up of games down the road I would still think that it is overpriced. That is why Wii and 360 has been blwoing them out of the water.

I think even Nintendo underestimated the demand for the system. 1.8 million in North America, 900K in Japan, about 400K in Europe and Australia.
