Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced the launch of PlayStation 3 in PAL territories will be delayed until March 2007. In an official statement Sony blamed the slippage on a lack of key components needed to manufacturer the consoles, adding, "the revision of the launch date in the SCEE territories is caused by the delay in the mass production schedule of the blue laser diode within the Sony Group, this affecting the timely procurement of key components to be utilised in PlayStation 3."
The delay will affect gamers in Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Africa and Australasia, who won't be able to officially get their hands on a PS3 until March next year. However, the Japanese and US launches of PlayStation 3 remain unaffected, released on November 11 and November 17 respectively. Sony's plan to ship six million consoles globally by the end of the 2007 fiscal year also remains unchanged.
The blue laser diode is a key component of the PS3's Blu-Ray drive and the shortage is expected to affect other Blu-Ray products in Sony's line-up, not just PlayStation 3. However, with Microsoft claiming there'll be enough Xbox 360s to meet demand this Christmas and Nintendo's Wii expected to launch globally in the next couple of months, could the delay spell disaster for Sony? We'll bring you more news on the delay plus industry reaction throughout the day.

Hot on the heels of the PlayStation 3 delay in Europe, reports indicate that launch numbers in North America and Europe will be smaller than Sony originally indicated. In North America about 400,000 PS3 units will be available during the November 17th launch, and in Japan, only 100,000 consoles will be available when the system launches on November 11th.
Originally Sony planned to have four million PlayStation 3 consoles shipped by the end of the year, and now Sony believes that number will be cut to two million. A problem with the production of the Blu-ray player is the cause for the shortage.
"We've been working hard to try to tackle the problem, but we see the delay is inevitable," stated Sony's Kaz Hirai.
Mass production of the PS3 is expected to begin at the end of this month.

Im kinda mad about this news because if I dont get one the first day it comes out because of this im going to be pissed off, cause Iv reserved the $600 version. But once I got to thinking Its good that they caught the problem before they sent them out. So its kind meh to me. Just some of my thoughts
I think the obvious problem is that it is going to suck. Lol, it won't happen anytime soon.

Dave, Simply look at the sales records for the ps2, and compare them to Xbox and Game Cube, Ps2 dominated through out the years of those systems, Its going to be no different, face it bro, ps3 will be dominent in the charts, nuff said.

Look at the price tag of the PS3 and look at the price tag of PS1 and PS2. Huge-ass difference. Not that many parents will fork out that sortof money for a console which has been phailing from the start, so basically until the price is reduced only kids with rich parents will get it. (I could say hardened gamers would get it too but they know that it's going to be a phailure so they won't bother to waste their money)...KThxBye
