November 27, 2006 - Nintendo of America on Monday announced that it had sold more than 600,000 Wii units since the console's launch and that with first-party and accessory sales the system had brought in $190 million in its first week.
"Even with sales already in excess of 600,000 units, demand continues to exceed supply, as it's clear this is one of the 'gotta-have' products for the holiday season," said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "We've shipped retailers several times the amount of hardware the other company was able to deliver for its launch around the same time -- and we still sold out. Given the inclusive nature of Wii game play, we're seeing this new form of video gaming is already a huge hit with gamers and newcomers alike. It continues to be a phenomenal launch."
As expected, The Legends of Zelda: Twilight Princess was the best-selling Wii game, with 454,000 copies sold to day. That means 75% of all Wii owners are also playing Zelda.
The Big N originally stated that it planned to ready about a million consoles for the debut in the Americas. Despite the smaller number of units available at launch, Nintendo is still expected to make close to four million Wii systems available for purchase before year's end.

You notice how Sony has yet to mention anything about the PS3? With reports that the PS3 only sold around 200,000 systems, I can't blaim them.
I just wonder how Sony will spin it since they like to report shipping numbers rather than sales numbers (especially with the PSP which has shipped 21 million but only sold about 16 million, compared to the DS which has sold about 24 million).

My friends at work say sony has reported 600k units sold. I sincerely doubt it. (not a playstation fan here) I read somewhere that sony is heavily relying on ps3 sales to bring back its electronic branch to black numbers. That means if ps3 doesn't sell well we'll be probably seeing their demise.

Well anything Sony shipped they would have sold so whatever they report as shipped would be sold right now. Unless you are trying to tell me you can still walk into stores and actually find a PS3? Only way Sony could twist the sales is if they reported all the consoles that people bought and sold on Ebay as two sales To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. Anyway, what will matter is exactly what Microsoft said will matter. What sales are doing one year from now and not what they are doing right now.
But even more importantly in the case of the Wii is if it can manage to not be in bargain bins a couple of years from now when the controller will just have rehased ideas over and over while the hardware is no better than the last gen of consoles.

nexgenwars is not a reliable website, the 18-year old who runs the website just uses numbers he sees reported on websites. He had Wii at around 600K, then dropped it down to 400K, then moved it back up all within a 1 week span.
Spinoff, just look at the DS. People said that was just a gimmick and wouldn't be ableto compete with the PSP. Not only does the system have great and original games, but it is easily beating the PSP in every market (except for South Korea). Speaking of the Wii, why have you not added me to your address book yet?

Like I said, the person who runs the site just uses what he reads on the internet.

The handheld industry is a market Nintendo have controlled for ages and has a lower average gamer age. The console market is a market Sony has been controlling and the average gamer age is a lot higher than handhelds. In order for Wii to sell they need to take away from the Sony crowd and right now it is Microsoft that will be doing that if Sony sales drop. There are just to many things going against Wii to pull in the mainstream casual gamers so once you get past the initital loyal Nintendo fans or the "hardcore" gamer Nintendo could easily start to struggle.
Also if anything DS proves my point about what the Wii controller will become. A lot of DS games don't even use the stylus, some do but basically just use it to click on something during a conversation or other minor ways and some use it a lot but it is getting to the point where it is stuff you have already done in other DS games. But like I said this is fine for DS since it is a market Nintendo control and also works better the normal way than I see the Wii working. The classic controller isn't bad though so if games use that it could work but again the controller is really all Wii has going for it over the other consoles.
I don't want Nintendo to fail since as a company I still like them and after the disaster that was the Gamecube I do feel the Wii is a step back in the right direction but I just don't see it doing well in a couple of years.
As for adding you I am not sure if you posted your code here and can't see threads on JVN anymore so I think I will need your code again since I never wrote it down. Been playing SVR07 so much that my Wii has been getting neglected To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
