A computer game with scenes in which a young girl is tortured has prompted the EU's top justice minister to call for a clampdown on video game violence. Franco Frattini made the comments after seeing Rule of Rose for the Sony PlayStation. In it, players are cast as a young girl who is repeatedly beaten, bound, gagged, doused in liquids and locked in a "filth room" as she flees an orphanage.
The game, developed by a Japanese firm Shirogumi, is also reported to have sado-masochistic and erotic overtones.
It is due to be released in Britain on November 24 but can already be bought on the internet.
"This has shocked me profoundly for its obscene cruelty and brutality," Mr Frattini said.
"We, at member state and European level ... have to take responsibility to protect children's rights.
"These types of games are dreadful examples for our children."
The European Commission wants the issue to be on the agenda of the next regular meeting of EU interior and justice ministers in early December, before holding talks with the industry next year.
These games that get publicity like this tend to sell well but this sounds just a little too weird for my likings, and really sounds too extreme for younger children to get a hold of...But I'm nearly certain that it'll fall into the hands of some youngsters.
Thoughts?

The mayor of Rome was also trying to get this game banned about a month ago. Then the fact that Sony backed out of releasing it outside of Japan shows they knew it might stir up some problems. But from what I have heard it isn't that bad and nothing that hasn't been seen in a horror movie before.
