Developer: Remedy Entertainment Publisher: Microsoft Game Studios Platform: XBox 360 Release Date: May 2010

Alan Wake is an upcoming video game being developed by Remedy Entertainment, the Finnish company behind the Max Payne games. Alan Wake is a "psychological action thriller" inspired by Twin Peaks, Lost and also the works of Stephen King. It is due for release on Xbox 360 in spring 2010. Plans for a Windows release have been shelved indefinitely. The titular character, Alan Wake, is modeled after Ilkka Villi, a Finnish professional actor and writer.
Alan Wake, a bestselling writer, hasn't managed to write anything in over two years. Now his wife, Alice, brings him to the idyllic small town of Bright Falls to recover his creative flow. But when she vanishes without a trace, Wake finds himself trapped in a nightmare. Word by word, his latest work, a thriller he can't even remember writing, is coming true before his eyes. He somehow knows it's his story without any memory of writing it.
If Alan Wake's TV show-like presentation isn't, well, enough like a TV show for you, here's some good news: next week, the first episode in a six-part live-action Alan Wake series will be available on Xbox Live.
Bright Falls, shot on location in Oregon, acts as a prequel to the events in the game -- which hopefully means that at least some weirdness was taking place in the game's location before the arrival of Mr. Wake. Otherwise, we'll be watching six episodes about a really pleasant town. Allaying the concern we just expressed, Microsoft promises that the series "evokes the same ghostly chills as 'Twin Peaks' did when it premiered 20 years ago this month."
The first two episodes will be available for Xbox Live Gold members on April 25, for everyone else on Xbox Live on April 26, and on brightfalls.com on April 27, with one new episode releasing each week until May 17's two-part finale. That date happens to be one day before the Xbox 360 game's release date, at which point you'll get to see the rest of the story in the game -- and the short story included with the collector's edition.

i was skeptical about this game before but this sounds amazing. I hope it's free and it will be a good way to get people in the know and excited about this upcoming game.
WILDCARD BITCHES!

Alan Wake won't be exploring the darkest corners of your Xbox until next week but developer Remedy has already announced via Twitter the release date for the game's first DLC episode: July 27.
... Or is it July 28, as seen on promotional dashboard show Sent U A Message host Daniel Maher's Twitter account? We're just as confused as you presumably are and have reached out to all parties (including Microsoft) to help us cast some light on things. Inconsistent release dates aside, users will be able to access the DLC through the included token download card packed in with all new copies of the game. No word yet on how much the DLC will cost those of you who go the used games route. joystiq.com
I'm looking at the IGN strategize video on XBL and the whole light and brightness concept looks like it'd get a bit annoying after while and would lead to a lot of frustrating deaths in the game.
Got it today. Only played the first level but it seems cool. The way they present the story with the chapters is pretty weird. The gameplay, graphics, atmosphere, etc are all sick. The constant narrating is already annoying me, though,
I got it from GameStation (not sure if you have them in the US?). I was originally going to buy Fallout 3 but decided to wait until my exams are over before I get that as it will most likely consume my life.
