I still play my gamecube when I have parties but that's because my friends and I are obsessed with Smash Bros. and Mario Party. I'd def suggest getting one if you're still thinking about it since they're like 20 bucks these days.
With the Wii being backwards compatible, most people just use that to play all the good Gamecube games. I had one when they first came out and for party games I got a lot of enjoyment out of it. Games like Mario Party, Smash Bros, Monkey Ball, and Mario Kart DD, all provided countless hours of fun.
