Screw everyone. I love World At War. I think personally it's much harder to create a historically based game, and they didn't do the generic same day stuff that other ones do, it was based around the lesser known dates. I play it alot more than MW, that's for sure. I hated the map thing, that was the main turnoff.

I've got a few suggestions for you if you're a shooter fan and particularly a GOW fan.
1)Army of Two - two player co-op action, great 3rd person shooter with customizable weaponry, the second one is coming out soon too so if you wanna wait for that good, but the first one will be a good primer, and if you need somebody to play co-op, my gamertag is on here.
2)Burnout Paradise - Don't know if you're a fan of racing games but I don't really consider this a racing game, I consider it a fun game that just happens to be a racing game because the entire idea is drive around, do races (which you can cause the other cars to crash in the race) do insane stunts and high flying jumps (even moreso on the new Paradise Island expansion).
3)Ace Combat 6 - Again, dunno if you're a fan of airplane fighter games, but this is top of the line in terms of that genre, a good storyline, the controls, if you put it on Novice, are intuitive but in order for you to be able to pull off real Top Gun style shit you need to put the controls on Normal so one stick controls pitch and another controls yaw.
4)Halo 3/Halo 3 ODST - I know there's a dividing line between COD players and Halo players. I'm on the Halo side. Don't get me wrong, COD looks cool and I'm sure it plays just as cool but I'm more used to the speed of Halo, and I tend to get motion sickness easily at times even when playing Halo sometimes. And if you're going to get one first, wait, get ODST first, because if you played Halo 2, ODST is a mid-story between Halo 2 and Halo 3, then get Halo 3 (since it'll come down in price DRASTICALLY once ODST comes out)
5)Fallout 3 - a perfect blend of an RPG and a shooter if there ever was one. I've played some of the game myself, and I love it, I'm just waiting for the Game of the Year edition that comes out next month which has all the expansions in one game.
6)Star Wars: The Force Unleashed - Another game you should wait on because the Ultimate Sith Edition is coming out later this year, which has the main campaign, the Jedi Temple mission and the Ultimate Sith missions all on one disc rather than buying the main game, then paying for two expansions out of the three (the third apparently won't be DLC, it'll only be on the Ultimate Sith Edition disc.)
And on the Left 4 Dead tip, yeah, wait and get the second one. But if you really wanna get the game, get the Game of the Year Edition which has the expansions already on it. It's a fun game, just the second one will be SO much better.
Left 4 Dead is immense. It is a shooter with zombies but its...there's a lot more atmosphere there than with most shooters. Best co-op game I have ever played. It made me shell out for an XBL account, so take that for what its worth.
Er, other games. I seen a lot already suggested so if these have already been mentioned, I apologise.
Mass Effect - absolutely immense from start to finish. Loved this game, absorbing story, only draw back is that it stole my life for a few weeks. Excellent game.
Bioshock - I actually only got this last week. Fun game, still undecided on it but it was cheap and came with Oblivion, which I hear is fun times (I've yet to try it). Bioshock is a good if ridiculously easy game.
If you like football games, Fifa 09 was a lot of fun.
The Orange box I picked up for 8 bucks, and that was the deal of the century if you haven't played HL2 and its episodes. Portal is hella fun, never really tried Team Fortress since I came to the dance late and struggled to get anyone to want to play it again.
Fable 2 was a decent if really flawed game.
Saints Row 2 I enjoyed more than any GTA game.
I played the first little section of Fallout 3 and loved it.
Batman, of course.
Resident Evil 5 made me not hate the series, but I played with someone who knew what they were doing. Playing it alone is impossible because of the friendly AI.
