The Sony event in Sydney is still rolling on but in espionage-like movements that would put Sam Fisher to shame, our Gameplayer staff have managed to get more breaking news through to us beyond the exciting stuff we reported earlier. This particular announcement was left until the end, and with good reason; it’s huge.
According to our guys on the frontline, Sony has made an agreement with Atari to help publish and distribute the soon to be released Ghostbusters: The Video Game. While this news may not initially come across as particularly groundbreaking, it’s the implications of the late announcement that are potentially extreme.
For starters, Ghostbusters is now confirmed as, at the very least, a timed exclusive for all three PlayStation formats (with the PSP to appear later than the console versions). At its most extreme, however, the news could mean that Ghostbusters may never appear on Xbox 360, Wii, DS and the PC. Atari are free to make that call at a later date, if initial reports are to be believed.
This cold be a big blow to XBOX 360 and Nintendo console owners indeed. If it's true, some of us on here won't feel what it's like to play the game on the 360, Wii or DS.

Disappointing, as early talk of the game has been enticing. But not surprising, given that the console makers have been working for game exclusivity for awhile now.

I honestly don't get the hype behind this game. I know 'Busters was a classic, but it really sounds like a meh rental game. Maybe I'm not hearing what everyone else is hearing about it.

Hmm don't believe it for the fact that this was on the IGN site today too:

US, May 6, 2009 - NEW YORK, NY - Atari, one of the world's most recognized video game publishers, today confirmed the worldwide launch plans for the highly anticipated Ghostbusters: The Video Game.
The title will launch on the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Windows PC, PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system, PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system, Wii and Nintendo DS in North America on June 16th 2009 and will be published by Atari Inc.
In an exclusive deal for Europe and the PAL regions, the PLAYSTATION 3 system and PlayStation 2 system versions will launch on June 19th 2009 published by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe. The launch coincides with the 25th anniversary of the original film's theatrical release and the launch of the Blu-Ray of the classic first movie, benefiting from a worldwide launch and licensing campaign by Sony Pictures Consumer Products.
"Ghostbusters: The Video Game is one of our most significant worldwide releases this summer. Through Atari's North America publishing business and alongside our partners at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, we have a strategically diversified approach to maximize a title of this magnitude on a global basis," said Jim Wilson, CEO, Atari, Inc.
He continued: "As excitement in the marketplace continues to accelerate around this title and the 25th anniversary of the movie's release, Ghostbusters' large and loyal fan base and gamers across North America can play Ghostbusters: The Video Game across all major platforms on June 16."
A PSP (PlayStation Portable) version of the game is scheduled for worldwide launch in autumn 2009 and will be published in Europe by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game, based on the smash hit motion picture franchise, is penned by original Ghostbusters writers and stars Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd and reunites many of the original cast members to recapture the unique blend of humour and fright that established Ghostbusters as a pop culture sensation. The game's launch on 16 June 2009 coincides with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment's worldwide debut of the original motion picture on Blu-ray Disc.
In addition to Aykroyd and Ramis, original Ghostbusters Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson lend their voices and in-game likenesses to the original story set two years after Ghostbusters II, with Manhattan once again overrun by ghosts and supernatural forces. The player joins up as a new recruit with the original team, testing a variety of unique equipment and gadgets, to track, wrangle and trap this wide range of awe-inspiring phantasms in an all new funny and frightening battle to save New York City from its latest paranormal plague.
And i doubt Sony would be that big of a dick now the game is pretty much done not to allow it on all formats if they do then fuck em To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 20 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

When did Ghostbusters become such a big draw. Just sounds like another game based off a movie that isn't going to be all that great. Maybe a fun game but it doesn't sound like it will have any extended play beside that.

This is a good thing. The console wars are so lame these days. As a result of the high price it costs to produce games almost everything appears on both 360 and PS3 and as a result each system lacks identity.
Think back to the PSX VS N64 days. Each system had it's own distinguished look, pros and cons, as well as game library. Assuming you had the money/time to play video games buying both systems would be a sound investment as you'd get such different games on each system.
I currently have a 360 and really want to play Metal Gear and possibly MAG on the PS3. The only problem is that there aren't nearly enough intriguing exclusives to justify me dropping 400 dollars on another game console.
After seeing this, I had to check. With a 360 and a ps3, it wouldn't matter much to me, but this is something that doesn't look to be true @ all.

Now that's no guarantee that they're listing something that won't be, but typically they're good enough to go by.
As well, I just ran across an ad for this in the X-Box mag, which said the same thing, so this isn't looking to be true.
