Ben Arfa Confirms Arsenal Talks

Lyon winger Hatem Ben Afra has confirmed that talks are underway over his potential move to Arsenal.

Talks have taken place

The French international, who has accumulated five caps for his country, has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium over the last week, and the winger has suggested that talks are ongoing.

"It is true that we have spoken about and to Arsenal, but we will see how it is going to happen," Ben Arfa told L’Equipe.

First-team football a priority

Whatever happens this summer, the twenty-two year old has stressed that he will only be playing for a club where he will be a regular first team player next season.

"If I stay at Lyon, it is to play. Wherever else I go, it will be to play,” added Ben Afra.

Season still on

Ben Afra, who is valued at around £13 million, says that his immediate priority is the completion of the domestic season in France.

"The season is not over yet, two games are remaining (one in the league, followed by the Coupe de France final). Today I am at Lyon. We will see what tomorrow is made of. I try to give my maximum and to give everything when I am on the pitch," he concluded.

The left-sided player appeared in all eight of his team’s Champions League matches this season before their eventual exit to Manchester United in the round-of-sixteen.

This is getting exciting hes def going to be Arsenals first signing and its going to be soon.

Re: The Summer 2008 Transfer Thread

Arsenal have been in contact with Marseille midfielder Samir Nasri with a view to signing the France international, BBC Sport understands.

The 20-year-old is believed to have a £13.5m buy-out clause in his contract, but it is not known whether Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has agreed a fee.

Nasri, who said he may have played his final game for the club, is renowned for his pace and dribbling skills.

He was named in France's provisional 30-man squad for Euro 2008 on Sunday.

Nasri joined Marseille as a nine-year-old and made his league debut during the 2004-2005 season.

Last season, Nasri, who can play on either wing, won the French first division's young player of the year crown and was voted Marseille's player of the year by fans.

This campaign he scored six goals in 30 games for the French outfit with the final strike in his tally coming in the 4-3 win over Strasbourg last weekend that helped secure Marseille's berth in next season's Champions League.

Nasri had appeared at various youth international levels for France before winning the first of seven senior caps in 2007.

Re: The Summer 2008 Transfer/Rumors Thread

Liverpool have made their first transfer move of the summer, swooping for Borussia Dortmund's Philipp Degen on a free transfer.

The Switzerland international defender will move to Anfield on 1 July when his current deal with the German club ends.

The 25-year-old former Basel player will compete with Alvaro Arbeloa and Steve Finnan for the right-back berth.

"His strength is going forward," Anfield manager Rafael Benitez told Liverpool's website.

"He is an offensive player with great energy and a winning mentality.

"He also played in the Champions League during his time with Basel and so is used to top-level football."

Degen - whose twin brother David plays for Basel - has made 26 appearances for Switzerland since making his international debut in 2005.

He spent three seasons at Dortmund, making 70 appearances before opting to move to Anfield.

"When I received the offer from Liverpool, there was no doubt I would accept it," said Degen.

"They are one of the biggest clubs in the world and I am looking forward to the challenge of establishing myself there and playing in the best league there is."

Re: The Summer 2008 Transfer/Rumors Thread

Fulham have released eight players from the club including United States international captain Carlos Bocanegra, it announced on Friday.

Jari Litmanen, Philippe Christanval, Simon Elliott, Ian Pearce, Michael Timlin, Ismael Ehui, and Bjorn Runstrom are the other players to leave.

The Cottagers narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League with a last-day win at Portsmouth.

Goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer signed from Middlesbrough on Thursday.

The club also confirmed that right-back Paul Stalteri has returned to Tottenham Hotspur following the end of his loan spell.

After defender Bocanegra, Finnish veteran Jari Litmanen is the highest-profile name to leave the club amongst the other players.

The 37-year old attacking midfielder was signed by manager Roy Hodgson in January but was injured for much of his short spell and failed to make a first team appearance.

Re: The Summer 2008 Transfer/Rumors Thread

Manager Arsène Wenger has confirmed that he is looking to sign Marseilles winger Samir Nasri.

It is probably the biggest indication yet that Belarus winger Alexander Hleb is on his way out of the club and Nasri is his replacement.

And Wenger has confirmed that talks are underway as he looks to secure Nasri's signature before the Euro 2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland, which start on 7th June.

Wenger said: "It is likely to happen.

"And if it does happen, it will be before the start of the European Championship."

French winger Franck Ribery also confirmed that Nasri's representatives were in contact with the North London club over a potential transfer.

The French international said: "It is good for him.

"It [Arsenal] is a good club with many young people.

"But the English championship is completely different, he will have to adapt in order to impose himself.

"It is damaging to Marseille that Samir leaves - he has lived there all his life but it is important for him to see other places."

Winger Alexander Hleb is looking to be finally on his way out of Arsenal, after the player's agent confirmed that the club had agreed to let him go.

Niki Spilevski said that talks between the Belarus international and manager Arsène Wenger concluded with the club not standing in Hleb's way if a club came in with the right offer.

The revelation comes after talks between manager Arsène Wenger and Hleb.

Spilevski said: "I can officially confirm that a short time ago Alexander decided that he will leave Arsenal and join another club.

"Of course, Arsenal and Arsène wanted him to stay but they have accepted the player's choice."

Re: The Summer 2008 Transfer/Rumors Thread

Swiss defender Philippe Senderos has said that he will stay with Arsenal for next season, and has no plans to leave the club any time soon.

The central defender has a contract that runs till 2010.

Senderos highlighted the fact that his own experience has improved and he is on the brink of breaking into the first team.

He said: "I am under contract with Arsenal until 2010 and there is no reason why I should not honour it.

"I have taken part in over 30 matches this season. I've played some big games in the Champions League and gained in experience.

"There is nothing in my record to make me blush. The reports that I had a nervous breakdown after the Liverpool game are false.

"I simply accepted the blame for their first goal.

"I was then the victim of the manager's selections."

Meanwhile, the English FA have targeted Arsenal medical staff Gary Lewin and Ian Beasley (club doctor) in a bid to strengthen their own medical personnel.
