I don't think it's ever as cut and dried as this and that the old agage of "how many players would get into such and such a team" never holds much sway with me.

I'll give you an example.

No member of the Greek team that won Euro 2004 would have even made England's squad for that tournament.

Re: Vacant Irish manager position

My first choice was Houlier (Realistic i mean, obviousaly my first was Mourinho).

If Trapottini wasent so old, he would have been the best candidate by miles.

On the subject of the players, we were actually talking about it in work yesterday. Given, Dunne, O'Shea, Duff, Keane, Hunt, Doyle, Reid, Carsley, Kilbane, Ireland. Their is no reason we should not finish second at least with Italy top. However, we do seem to do better against the big guns. That means we will lose to Serbia & Cyprus so we fuck oursevels again. Take Brazil for example. We were not great but we still could have gotten a draw out of it with a little more luck.

If Gio can get the team organisied & playing the same way, rather than everyone wondering where they are supposed to be like under Stan, then we should make it to the finals provided we dont get one of the top teams in the play-offs.
