I never expected him to stay beyond his original loan period, so this comes as no surprise to me. He hasn't performed badly for United during his stint - 2 goal in 8 games isn't a bad return. And his involvement has meant Rooney and Saha have been rested respectively, in certain games. It would have been good to have him for the run in, but i'm not sure he'd make a huge difference in whatever the outcome is.

Thoughts?

Yes it's a fantastic point. Agree, his appearances have been useful for them as much in being able to rest others than anything else.

The only problem I think would be if Rooney or Saha were injured for the last five or six games (some important ones in there).

Yes it could be a problem if Rooney or Saha do get injured (got forbid they both get injured). It's a shame Alan Smith refused to go out on loan, he could have got his match sharpness back, and be ready to fill in the gaps if need be. Same with Rossi. His loan spell at Newcastle was more or less pointless due to the amount of game time he actually got. The good thing for United is they don't solely rely on their strikers to bag the goals for them.
