Richard Walker's penalty was enough to earn Bristol Rovers a 1-0 win over Hereford and send the Pirates into the FA Cup fourth round.

Hereford goalkeeper Wayne Brown mistimed his challenge on Craig Disley to concede the decisive spot-kick in the 22nd minute, and Walker made no mistake as he drilled the ball straight down the middle of the goal to send Rovers through.

Brown atoned for his earlier mistake with a string of fine saves to deny Rickie Lambert and Walker before Rob Purdie spurned Hereford's best chance of the game in stoppage time when he fired wide from 15 yards.

Tim Sills also hit two rasping volleys straight at Rovers goalkeeper Steve Phillips while Purdie tried his luck from distance early on but failed to trouble the home stopper.

At the other end, Craig Hinton had a header hacked off the line by Trent McClenahan as Rovers enjoyed the best of a vibrant first-half but it was Walker's strike that ultimately separated the sides.
