Big Papi is a nickname for David Ortiz, one of the players on the Boston Red Sox, who has a knack for making big plays at crucial times of the game. I think that's what the comparison was. The writer is a Red Sox fan, so I think they were saying that Gerrard is England's version of Big Papi, because he is a clutch player.

I think I'll do some research into these teams, and try to pick one.

By the way, what months do the season run? Is it year-round, or is there an off-season like we have in american sports?

There's an offseason I think, but not for the team it seems.. Like if a team is good they get to play in all these tourneys or cups and if they are really good they play in the champions league..

The regular league isn't year 'round.. Great read btw.. I love his comparisons. Bill Simmons rules all.

The Season starts in a few weeks, it runs from mid August to early May. So you've got a few weeks to do some research, and pick a team before the season starts.

Edge will rise again...

OK, so i've decided first off, the team I pick has to be one I had actually heard of before. So, that leaves me with the following choices:

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle

Plus, a few are eliminated right off the bat. No Man U because they're too similar to the Yankees, no Man City because I'll always think of them as Man U's bitches (whether or not that's the truth), and no Arsenal because the biggest douchebag to pollute the "other place" was an Aresenal fan (it's a shame, because they have a cool name, and a middle eastern sponsor, which would make my gf happy.

So, that leaves me with Liverpool, Chelsea, and Newcastle. I'm gonna research those three teams and get back to you guys...
