TNA House Show - Dublin, Ireland, January 17th 2009

X Division Four-Way: Eric Young vs Sheik Abdul Bashir vs Consequences Creed vs Doug Williams.

Doug Williams got mega heat when Introduced from London, England. Bashir got heat as per usual. Creed was the third man out so was automatically the fans favourite. Eric was last out and was unbelievably over and easily over-took Creed. Most of the match resembled a tag match or a handicap match with the faces against the heels. Eric blocked the rolling German Suplex from Williams, and reversed into the Wheelbarrow Neckbreaker to pick up the win. Young and Creed both celebrated and got a big reaction after the match.

The Beautiful People vs Taylor Wilde and ODB.

The biggest pop of the night thus far came in the match that also got the most heat thus far. Somehow, Velvet Sky was on the end of each. Velvet Sky got a huge cheer for her ring entrance despite trying to act like a bitch to the fans at the front. I think Angelina was the only one not to get cheered in this match. After the match, the Beautiful People were getting cheered again so they took the mic to turn it around. Both of them throw out insults and even swore never to come back to Ireland again *Cue massive cheers due to their previous comments*. TV does not do Velvet Sky justice at all.

X Division Championship
Alex Shelley vs "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal.

I was surprised to see a title match on the card to be honest. Before the bell both men shook hands. The match itself was fairly even and even got duelling “Lets Go Shelley” & “Lets Go Lethal” chants for much of the match. At one point Lethal looked to have the match won but Shelley cut him off on the top rope. Lethal had hit the Lethal Combination and was going for the elbow drop. Shelley fought him off and hit the Frog Splash for the win.

Samoa Joe & AJ Styles vs Abyss & Matt Morgan.

Matt Morgan is freaking huge. He was towering over everyone as he walked to the ring. Abyss got a much bigger reaction that Morgan but the second biggest pop overall came next when AJ Styles was introduced. Having no idea who was going to team with Styles gave everyone a nice surprise when Joe’s music played. Back and forth match with lots of “Joe is gonna kill you” chants whenever he was in control. Morgan accidentally hit Abyss with the Carbon Footprint before Morgan himself got pinned. Morgan and Abyss argued after the match.

TNA World Tag Team Championships
Beer Money vs Team 3D.

A second title match and in my opinion, the Match of the Night. Beer Money made sure to make themselves the heels when Storm said “its great to be back here in England.” Roode corrected him, Storm said “Ireland, England, their all the same.” Once Team 3D were introduced the usual “We Want Tables” chants started up. Storm didn’t approve and told us we weren’t getting any tables. Brother Ray offered a test of strength against Storm which was accepted. Every time Storm raised his arm, Ray lowered his and raised the other. Storm threw a temper tantrum but kept trying anyway. As both men sped up they ended up going into a dance routine. Storm danced on his own until Roode yelled at him to pay attention.

A “Brokeback Mountain” chant started after an odd landing. Remember the situation with Beer Money and Jacqueline at Genesis? Take out Jacqueline, Put Roode in her place and put Storm in Roode’ place. Roode quickly crawled away with his hand on his ass. Both men argued about it until Ray bounced their heads.

Team 3D finally caved and got the tables. As Devon went to get it, Storm hit Ray with the Last Call and pulled Roode on top for the Pinfall. After the match, James Storm got a 3D through the table.

Jeff Jarrett vs Kurt Angle with Mick Foley as special enforcer.

Another back and forth match which saw both men on the verge of victory several times. The ref got knocked out when Angle ducked a Jarrett clothesline. Angle brought in a chair which Foley intercepted. Angle punched Foley and ended up getting introduced to Mr. Socko for his troubles. Jarrett hit Angle with the guitar to pick up the win.

Top Pops:

01. Mick Foley
02. AJ Styles
03. Team 3D
04. Velvet Sky
05. Abyss

Top Heat:

01. Beer Money Inc
02. The Beautiful People
03. Kurt Angle
04. Earl Hebner (Who even responded to the Suck It gestures with one of his own)
05. The Kid wearing a John Cena t-shirt. Foley gave her the broken Guitar after the match. Apparently they were sold out of Mick Foley t-shirts, according to Mick anyway.

Easily the loudest wrestling show I have ever been to. It was a 2,500 sell out and if Mick Foley, Team 3D and Jeremy Borash are to be believed it wont be the last time they come to Ireland. They recorded a little bit in the ring with JB introducing. He told us it would air on a future edition of iMPACT! Basically one of those quick sweeps on the crowd that usually make it to TNA Today. If you can go to a TNA House Show, do!

Hopefully, I’ll add some pictures later as the camera died half way through Jarrett vs. Angle.

Re: TNA House Show - Dublin, Ireland, January 17th 2009

Nice pics and review.

Where did they hold the show? I was hoping they would have come to Cardiff, since we don't have that big of an arena, and we're a major city in the UK. Hopefully they'll come next time if they expand their tour.

I'm bitterly, bitterly disappointed by the absence of LAX, yet the inclusion of guys like Morgan, Steiner, TBP and 3D - doesn't seem like I'll be pleased, judging by the best reactions. Oh well. Still, seems like it'll be a half-decent show, if not as good as the last one I saw.

I'll be seeing it at Wembley Arena on Saturday, by the way. Obviously, a different card is likely.

Re: TNA House Show - Dublin, Ireland, January 17th 2009

I've seen them live 4 times now and 3 of them were house shows (the other was the 07 Lockdown PPV)

I have seen WWE the same amount and I have to say that the TNA house show is a MUCH better product IMO. As far as the PPV went I'd have to give a slight nod to WWE if not only because this was the PPV with Harris vs Storm in a blindfold match. Although the fire Russo chants were pretty amuzing.
