Oh dont get me wrong, the match had its spots but I dont remember barbed wire covered object, mini bombs in the ring, basball bats on fire and such. If anything the headbutts would fall into the brawling aspect wouldnt they?
Since when do you need weapons to be dangerous? A barbwire board can make you bleed but won't have any long terms effects other than some scars, unprotected headbuts full on can seriously fuck you up.

Re: Do you approve of the way TNA have booked Foley?
Barbed wire can cut main arteries causing you to bleed to death. Headbutts full on can cause a concussion and depending on the angle (temple, left side) a possibility for minor brain damage.
Re: Do you approve of the way TNA have booked Foley?
No one has bled to death because of wrestling, there have been several suffering severe head injuries and the like from unprotected head bumps. Hell, just watch any of Benoit's "big" matches and theres bound to be one ridiculously dangerous head bump in it, and we all know that must have contributed to his head trauma (not saying everyone who does it will be a murderer though lols).
This is all derail from the thread though.
Can anyone make sense of the Shelley/Foley stuff? Because I sure as hell can't.

My point is if Foley didnt have matches with what I listed above, he wouldnt have had any of the matches you think are great. Unless he was willing to be cut, burnt, and thrown off of tall objects, probably no wrestling promoter would have given him a chance.

I don't think he was originally given a chance in WWE for those reasons. He did it in ECW and Japan, but when he first came to WWE he wasn't exactly having matches like that. Hell, WWE's product wasn't 'hardcore' at all. The Attitude Era didn't start for another couple of years, so I hardly think you can argue that Foley was signed for the purpose of being burnt and thrown off tall objects. If you had suggested that to WWE in 96 they would think it was crazy.

I dont know about fire and barbed wire, but I know Foley was taking super bumps. Undertaker sent Foley from the ring crash head first through an announce table, to which Foley got stuck upside down. Fact is, I cant remember one interesting match Foley had, where the match didnt break down and go all over the arena with weapons. Thats all Foley is known for, brutal bumps.

So he isn't known for his promo ability? If you think that then....
He is known as being a great brawler in terms of his ring ability. That doesn't always have to mean big bumps. Foley himself admitted that the Hell in a Cell bumps overshadowed everything else he had accomplished in his career, but that is because most fans are idiots.
Just because people remember the bumps first and foremost, doesn't mean that is all there is to him.
I am not saying he was a technical wrestling God, and if your point was that his only memorable matches were generally in hardcore environments, that would be a difficult point to counter. However, they certainly were not just about big bumps. Watch the Mind Games match I referred to, a match Foley long called his best ever performance.
