Flippy reviews Impact 7/24/08

The show starts off with Joe and Nash walking to the ring. The interesting part is that the ring is covered by the six sides of steel. Booker T makes his way to the ring and gives the standard promo, challenging Joe to a six sides of steel match at Hard Justice. I like the idea of using six sides of steel for their second match. A simple stipulation match, so they can have Booker T. vs Samoa Joe III if they need to.

We see a pretty epic Sting package, and they put over his “darkness” side. I kind of like what they are doing with Sting. We don’t really know where his head is at, and what he is planning to do.

First match of the night is Jimmy Rave vs. Consequences Creed vs. Johnny Devine vs. Eric Young. Creed has been impressive since he debuted with the company, and I’m hoping he’ll go places in the future. Match goes about 7 minutes, and it was full of fast paced action. Some fun spots and a lot of near pin falls. Creed picks up the win, but then gets beat down by Devine, Rave, and Lance Rock…Wait, Lance Rock? You got it, they changed Lance Hoyt’s name to Lance Rock. During the beat down, Abyss comes out and makes the save. I don’t like how they keep on doing this with Abyss, as I think he could be doing a lot better things. **1/2

They show a video package of Kaz. They start the video where he got his push at the end of 07, and faced Angle for the title. They continue to show how he keeps on losing the great opportunities that he has gotten. They cut over to a sit down interview with Kaz, where he puts over the beginning of his career and where he is now. The storyline is pretty interesting, and we don’t really know where Kaz’s head is at. Part 2 of the interview is next week, and that is where the angle will most likely unfold. It looks like another push is going to come out of this, which is kind of weird considering he was just in the middle of one. I guess this will be considered his heel push.

Up next is Matt Morgan vs Jobber. Just a squash match, and it puts over Morgan and his recent debut on American Gladiators. Morgan is a pretty impressive big man and I am liking his push. 1/2*

So, it looks like we got a super hero faction now. Prince Justice Brotherhood…Yeah, I know. We got Shark Boy, Curry Man, and Super Eric. Some of the skits TNA do are actually funny, but this one is just a little too much. Daniels can be doing a lot more, but he is stuck in this crap. TNA should be trying to move away from this kind of stuff, but that doesn’t look to be the case.

Down to the ring comes Beer Money. Boy, do I love this team. Two of my favorite wrestlers in TNA teaming up. They’ve been working pretty well together too since their pairing. Looks like its Beer Money vs. Motor City Machine Guns in a strap match. I’d save this match for a PPV, but the fans are going to get it for free. Crowd is really pumped up through the entire match, and it’s the first time they’ve seemed “alive” since the start of the show. Jackie keeps on interfering throughout the whole match, and Beer Money end up cheating to get the victory. Pretty solid match though, and I hope these two teams continue to feud for awhile. Beat down on MCMG after the match, but LAX makes the save. I’m liking the booking of the tag division as of late, and we got 3 great teams involved in the picture. Beer Money vs. LAX has potential to be a great match. ***

Next up is the TNA Knockouts Championship Match, Velvet Sky vs. Taylor Wilde. Damn, Velvet Sky is looking fine as hell, but that’s cut short for now. So, Taylor Wilde enters the ring and catches Velvet from behind and rolls her up for the win in 5 seconds. It was so stupid. Right when she got the 3 count, the announcer said she broke the Impact record for the shortest match. Velvet gets mad…yada yada yada. She asks for a rematch which Wilde accepts. But, guess what? Wilde beats her again immediately. We go through the same thing as last time, and their third match in a row starts up. It’s getting pretty ridiculous, and they are building Wilde up way too much. She really hasn’t done that much in TNA yet, but they are building her up as she is as unbeatable as Kong was. The third match goes the longest, but ends when Angelina Love gets involved. So all of that, just for a DQ finish. The Beautiful People beat down Wilde, until Kim and ODB make the save. This is like the third beat down leading into a save already tonight. SWITCH IT UP TNA! *

It looks like TNA is doing the same angle with Daivari that we’ve already seen done in WWE. I liked it in the WWE, but I wish TNA would try something a little different with him. We will see how it goes though.

And in the main event, here comes the table match between Kurt Angle and Team 3D vs. Rhino, Christian and AJ Styles. Second stipulation match of the night, which I say is definitely too much. That is one of TNA’s biggest problems at the moment. They rely too much on their gimmick matches, but sometimes it’s just overkill. The match turns into a complete brawl. There is fighting in the crowd, and I love it. TNA usually puts on a great main event and they do it again this week. Frank Trigg gets involved and Angle/3D pick up the victory. This whole involvement with Trigg really needs to go. He’s obviously not going to wrestle, so I don’t really find a use to him. ***1/4

Final segment of the night is the contract signing between Booker T. and Samoa Joe. We get the usual confrontation between the two, until the lights go out. Finally, Sting is about to come out!!! WRONG! The lights flicker back on and Booker T is holding a baseball bat while Joe is laid out. We've been waiting all night to see Sting, but he is never shown. So it leads to the question, was it Booker? Or was it Sting? Looks like TNA is setting up Samoa Joe vs. Sting for Bound for Glory. This would Sting’s third main event in a row at Bound for Glory. What a blast.

Overall, it was a pretty descent show with a lot of unanswered questoins. Hope you enjoyed!

It really is time for someone else to main event BFG. I'd rather them have saved Kurt/AJ instead of having Joe/Sting (That is of course if that's what they do).

RobyD's Review As He Watched It

Opening Segment was okay. Samoa Joe being intense an all the usual stuff, and then Booker T comes out and accepts to a Six Sides of Steel match. The only thing that bothered me was Booker's horribl goofy outfit. How comes with both Kurt and Booker, when they turned Heel, the ycan't just be pissed of Heel's or whatever and have to be so goofy? Whatever the case, good segment.

They ask if Samoa Joe will sign the contract? WTF? Of course he'll sign the contract, HE MADE THE CHALLENGE!

Jimmy Rave vs. Consequences Creed vs. Johnny Devine vs. Eric Young was very good. Kind of random match but that's okay because it was fun. Creed needs to drop his stupid ring attire, no offense to the American Flag. Creed and Rave looked very impressive IMO. Rave even more so than Creed. Rave hits several awesome moves like selling an uppercut awesomely well, a jumping Uranagi onto the Apron, Flying Leg Scissors which he spun alot, a "Rock the world" which was cool to see cause I never had and more. Creed also hit some stuff like flipping over the ropes and this fsunset flip rollup thing. Both of them should be pushed a lot. Creed was put over to hell, though. He picks up the win. A little over 4 minute match.
*1/2

The Beatdown after that with seemingly no reason at all. There is no story behind it at all. Then Abyss makes the save, AGAIN, for no fucking reason. But they put it over as his gimmick, if you will? WTF. At least they are playing it off as him trying to turn over a new leaf after getting out of the hospital? "Abyss, helping superstars in dire need!" well then why the fuck didn't he just help Booker T, Don West? Meh. Abyss should be tearing people up in hardcore matches.

Bubba-Ray Dudley puts on an awesome promo. Devon puts on a pretty decent promo. Kurt Angle puts on an awesome promo. Thank God Kurt Angle is being serious again. That's the way it should be.

Kaz promo airs. I liked it a lot. Showcased him a lot and made him feel like a maineventer. The interview with Kaz was neat. They should just do the whole damn in in one night. Christ.

Morgan squashes a jobber for a little over 2 minutes. Tenay and West put him over phenominally. All the guy needs now is a major feud and he will be major over. Hell, he already is major over. I liked this match for what it's worth. Just Morgan showing off, 1/2*.

MCMG's cut an absolutely PHENOMINAL PROMO. Hyped for their match a lot now.

LMFAO. That was the greatest promo ever. Oh God they are all being used horrible but I on't care. Curry Man and Shark Boy mix great together. "Pieces, not pisses!" -- "I shay pisses, your Englesh sucks Sharka!" haha. Great.

Strap match starts. These guys could feud instead I guess we're gonna see it now which is just as well. I like these guys having a new look. I like the way they were put over my the commentator booth. Beer Money is put over as well. The match flows well and both teams get to shopw off a bit. The fans are hot for this. I just realised that these two are like a JBL before and after team haha. The ref takes a bump and we get a false finish. Good, Beer Money goes over like they need to and MCMG weren't put down. Good match almost 8 minutes. **1/2

Beatdown after the match. At least this one makes sense. LAX comes down and makes the save. I think a Triple Threat Tag Team Match would be awesome.

Taylor Wilde vs. Velvet Sky. Roll up, she wins. Five star match, indeed. iMPACT! record of 5 seconds. Oh, another match. She wins again, with an iMPACT! record of two falls in 25 seconds. Now Angelina Love challenges her to a match againt Velvet Sky where the title plus 5 grand, respectively is on the line. DQ finish in a little over 5 minutes. I'm sorry, but shouldn't they save an iMPACT! record of 5 fucking seconds for someone like Joe or a guy in the future? Because God knows Divas just fade away so sooner rather than later, we won't even har of Wilde anymore.Third match is about 5 minutes and gets.*

They put the brown bag over her head and ODB and Gail Kim make the save. Tird fuckin rundown save of the night. YAY. SOMETHING DIFFERENT! Or not. Whatever, Knockout feud looks decent. ODB is actually majorly over and she needs the strap before she dies out like Joe did and THEN they give her the strap =/.

Daivari is now Sheik Aboul Bashir, eh? Catchy, right? I can see the fucking T-Shirts. I have a dumb question, for real, though. This is about Daivari and johnny The Bull Stamboli. Alright, so if both of them were hired for seemingly name value, WHY THE FUCK WERE THEIR GOD DAMN NAMES CHANGED? Fuck. Daivari is going to do the same stuff as he was doing in WWE, which is whatever. I'd rather Hassan be here if thatwas the case. I liked it, though, and TNA doesn't do a lot of Anti-American storylines so I'm okay with this.

Dutt promo was just fucking stupid. The ending left me wanting more, though. so I guess it did it's job.

Now for the 5 man elimination tables match. I liked most of this match through and through. It really annoys me that TNA is taped but during the commercial break they have to do the elimination? It's fuckin taped. Just do that part on the show, we like it better. Lol, but if The Ref wasn't looking so he couldn't see the Devon interference, how the fuck did he see Christian being eliminated. LMFAO. Anyways, AJ Styles is the last one left which was cool. That puts him above Christian and Rhino, both. Frank Trigg fucks over AJ, which would be okay if it was anyone else but come on. Enough with Frank Trigg already. Good 12 minute match. ***

Now for the contract signing. I was, again, looking foward to this. Booker T's outfit just killed it, though =/. Samoa Joe got pretty booed when he came out. God he makes me think "Sellout" when he comes out because of his suit that he wears. That's not Samoa Joe. That's just annoying. So Booker T has made this a Six Sides of Steel TLC match? lol okay. Halarious back and forth between Joe and Booker. Sharmell and Nash are sent to the back. The crowd is actually half and half between these two, one half chants "Book-Er-T" while the other claims "Sucks". TNA actually found a way to get Joe booed. Congradulation, and that wasn't sarcasm. Lights go out, and when they come back on, Joe is knocks out with Booker holding the bat. Was it Sting or was it Booker T? I like this a lot and I'm gonna watch next week to hopefully find out. I predict it was Kevin Nash, though.

Interesting iMPACT!. It was decent at best. I give it 7/10. We got a good 31 minutes of wrestling so yay us.

It is obviously Joe vs Sting for BFG. Kinda disappointing. I didn't mind iMPACT! this week. I just wish Abyss would do something meaningful instead of just fighting the weapons.

Abyss vs a steel chair in a Kaz on a pole match. It's genius.
