Is the iMPACT zone holding TNA down?

So I just watched TNA for the first time in months the other night, so bear with me. I could be totally off on this but.....

Does anyone else think that the Impact zone is actually hindering TNA's sucess?

During the MEM promo the other night, you could hear a pin drop when Steiner was blurting out his Adamle like promo. Granted the promo was awful but he got ZERO crowd reaction.

Then I noticed that when Joe and the boys came out there was a mild "Yay.....".

No chants, no heel heat. Nothing. It was as if the place was filled with people that barely watched wrestling and new next to nothing about the product. Either that or they were afraid of getting kicked out of the arena. haha

Is it just me? The crowd seems to really make the show look completely 2nd rate. It was almost impossible to watch.

At the same time i thought the booking was pretty good and the show would be so much better if it traveled to places like Madison Square Garden, The Staples Center etc etc.

In a word, yes. The impact crowds are terrible. They either sit on their hands because those don't know what's going on (the tourists) or they are total marks and chant dumb shit all night. Plus, they tend to cheer for everyone so you never really know who TNA wants to be heel or face. Granted, that's part of the booking as well, but the crowds certainly don't help.

They need to go on the road and tour bigger arenas. I don't know if they have the resources for that, but it's the only way they'll grow. ECW was a special case because their crowds were hot all night and very intelligent. It was a very unique but awesome and intimate atmosphere. The impact zone is far too generic.

I don't see it as holding them down, but keep in mind I have also heard they are building a new studio in the Memphis area that would be one of the largest HD ready arena's in America right now. I can't remember exactly where I heard it, but if there is fact to it, then you will probably get more of a ravid wrestling crowd in one of the hottest wrestling spots in the world in comparison to being a show at and amusement park.
