Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle - Realism in pro wrestling?
So.. I just got back from watching Lockdown and this was pretty much the only match I want to mention, so here it goes.
Joe finally won the World title from Angle. Thoughts on this? And.. what did you think of their approach in this match? It was very MMA/Pure wrestling style with only a few side moves mixed in here and there. Could we end up seeing more realism in wrestling in the near future, and would you like it if that's indeed where we're headed?
Re: Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle - Realism in pro wrestling?
i saw it live the match was sick. it looked real when they were hitting each other and i knew angle was a sick bastard and would not tap out. probably one of the best matches i have ever seen.

Re: Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle - Realism in pro wrestling?
I didn't see the match so I'm not going to comment on it, but rather on the theory behind it. This kinda reeks of Kurt Angle wanting so desperately to be a MMA fighter, but knowing he'd get his ass fucked up if actually stepped into the octagon with a legit MMA fighter. He's talked for years about doing it, even said he's fighting Chuck Liddell (until Chuck said, um no...you're not), but to do it this way is just.....gay. Either be a pro wrestler...or go be MMA guy, but don't try to stage some sort of MMA-TNA wrestling/shoot fight match.
Even though he lost to Frank Mir, at least Brock Lesnar actually put his money where his mouth is and went into MMA. He didn't go to Vince and try and put together a half MMA, half wrestling match. It would be like me telling you guys I'm good enough to play in the NBA, yet I only go and play pick-up games against NBADL guys at the YMCA.
Kurt, you say your good enough....you say you want to do it....then go fucking DO it. The REAL thing, not a fake ass match with Samoa Joe. Be a wrestler or be a MMA fighter, but stop trying to be both, especially in a wrestling ring. Dana White has extended numerous offers to him, but he never accepts. Does he think this match with Joe somehow proves something?

I didn't see the match so I'm not going to comment on it,
You really should have just stopped right there. I don't see how you can honestly try and bash Kurt Angle and say this was his idea to make it an "MMA fake fight" Did you ever stop and consider that he was actually an olympic wrestler and has been known to have "pure' wrestling matches in the past with people like Benoit, Lesnar to an extent and others. Maybe, and this is just maybe Kurt Angle and Joe just might be both very well suited to have a pure wrestling match which I'm sure was refreshing to see on an all cage match ppv that is usually made up of a lot of high spots.

I said I didn't see the match and therefor was not going to comment on IT. Which I didn't. Maybe you should have kept reading instead of stopping right there yourself. Did I ever consider he was an Olympic wrestler? No. Fuck, dude. You got me there. I had no idea. Really? Odd. I don't think Kurt ever mentioned that. The WWE certainly never brought it up. Your sitting here lecturing me on something that isn't even RELEVANT to the match. They didn't go out there and have "pure" wrestling match. It was a pseudo-MMA match, exactly as it was fucking billed by Angle, Joe, and TNA. Weather or not Angle and Joe can have a pure wrestling match (and I have zero doubt that they can) has nothing at all to with the match they actually did at Lockdown.
So, step back, take a deep breath, get your shit together, and come back to me when you can comment on what actually took place in a manner that actually addresses it.

Re: Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle - Realism in pro wrestling?
honestly, i can see how some liked it but the match bored me basically. the beginning was UBER slow and was mainly rest holds but it picked up and did get better. definately not the greatest match ever but it wasnt bad and i'd say it was easily the match of the night.(that wasnt hard tho)
Re: Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle - Realism in pro wrestling?
I haven't watched the match but I will say this. A rehearsed MMA match in a pro-wrestling ring can never do MMA justice.
This is the type of MMA match Kurt should stick with though because he would get seriously injured in a real MMA match.
