Samoa Joe interview notes

Notes from a Samoa Joe interview on IGN.

Regarding bringing in major names, he said: “If you want a company that’s your own, you need to make your own stars. You have to let those stars rise on their own, and at the same time bring in people from other companies to help further along that process and help out. But if you’re just bringing people in to be brought in, then you’re just spinning your wheels and you’re not really focusing on the wrestlers you need to focus on.”

He said he believed in simplicity in the ring. “Where some people in TNA take the high-flying back flip route, I’ll replace that with a punch or a nice kick square to the face. I don’t think violence is complicated. It’s a very simple affair, it’s a very direct affair, and I believe that’s how people like it. That’s where I get my style. Besides, when you have thousands of fans chanting at you to murder someone, it gives you pretty good incentive to do just that.”

He said the more time Spike gave them, the better it would be for TNA. “I think we really try to cram a lot into this small space of time, but I think with two hours, you’d see a very different TNA product, and a very, very different scene at TNA with more time given to some guys who desperately need it.”

He said getting a video game deal was “vital”. “The videogame industry rivals the motion picture industry. Everyone plays videogames. It’s a medium where we can reach out and get new fans, and that’s why TNA’s first videogame excursion needs to be absolutely awesome. We really want to produce something with really great gameplay while introducing some wrestling mechanics that have never been seen in games before. I think we’re going to have a pretty awesome crowd mechanic that nobody has ever thought of or has ever really seen used in a wrestling game that is really going to be wild. People are going to be wowed by the variety of locales we’re going to have, the arenas, the different types of crowds that will accompany each of those arenas. The TNA style incorporates some of the most innovative, high-flying, and crazy offense that you’ll see anywhere in the world, and we’re going to incorporate all that into the game. People are going to be absolutely surprised with how good the wrestlers look in the game. Some of the mockups that I’ve seen of some of the guys are amazingly detailed, they look amazing, and I think the final product is definitely going to be eye-opening”. Not to mention the revenue these things generate for a company.

I haven't seen any TNA....i'm downloading my first episode of Impact as we speak. I havent seen joe in the ring, But i must say i like his demeanor here. Everything he says there is spot on and hopefully he becomes a huge star....whether that be in a thriving TNA or WWE.

Thirty7,

If you want to see some good Joe matches, try to find basically any Joe Vs Punk match from ROH. I think Joe's best match in TNA may be from Unbreakable for the X Title between AJ Styles, Daniels, and Joe. Also, Joe's match against Steiner from Slammiversary was good.

Cheers Andrew,

I'm gonna dig into my local promotion's video archive. Hopefully they've got some ROH there, because i've been wanting to see that promotion to. So i'll be killing two birds with one stone there.

Some other good ROH dvds are Supercard of Honor from Wrestlemania weekend this past year. They have 6 of the Dragon Gate guys in a match together which was unbelieveable.

How We Roll has Christian Cage first's appearance in Ring of Honor when he teams up with Colt Cabana to face Bryan Danielson and Christopher Daniels.

Of course, there is Joe Vs Kobashi, when Kenta Kobashi make his first appearance in the US to face Samoa Joe which was the last 5 star match in the US according to Meltzer or 2nd to last behind the Unbreakable match.

If you see any of Danielson's title fights for this year, you are going to realize that he is right when he says he is the best wrestler in the world because he is really close to it.

You can also probably find any of these fights on youtube as well.
