Major TNA/Goldberg Update, Heat With Vince McMahon
By Tim Brown
02/21/2006 - The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that negotiations have gone well between TNA and Goldberg. While it isn’t safe to say anything is expected yet, both sides are hopeful.
Goldberg is said to be very enthusiastic about working for TNA. This is likely because he doesn’t want to be remembered for his last match at Madison Square Garden with Brock Lesnar. Another thing motivating him to work with TNA, is said to be his dislike for Vince McMahon, who he doesn’t even like to talk about.
If a deal is worked out between the two, it’s likely he would wrestle a few matches. It isn’t likely that they will try to build the company around him, or even make him a regular. However, if Spike TV decides to pitch in the money, he could be around for a bit longer than a few matches.

Do fans even care about Goldberg anymore? In his run with WWE he wasn't anywhere near as popular as he was in WCW. Maybe the fact that he was only in wrestling for the money was part of the reason.
I'm a little mixed about this, he might be able to draw in the fans which would be great for TNA. However, I wold rather see TNA try and build up it's current wrestlers and not waste money on somebody who couldn't care less about the sport.

I can't speak for the casual fan, but I know i'm not that interested in him. Nobody I know is interested in him anymore either.

i was a goldberg fan till he cam to wwe and i don't if it was wwe or him that made me change my mind about him. But i think he could have a impact on tna but only if they push him as a powerhouse like he was when he first cam to wcw

I don't mind the guy, and if bringing him in causes just a few more thousand people to watch and catch sight of the likes of Joe, Daniels, Aj and others, then I'm all for it.
I do worry though about the financial aspect of the company. They are millions down, luckily have a considerate benefactor, but wrestling needs this company to be a success and I'm not sure that throwing money at a guy (and it would have to be a lot of money) like Goldberg would prove good value.
I would prefer they spent their money down the line on Brock or Jericho.

Jericho would be great, actually so would brock...
although totally off topic - Jericho stage dived right on top of me at a Fozzy gig, my neck hurt just a touch... But i have nice pics of me jumping off the stage, him jumping off on me and me + mates rocking it with him and the band on stage. Damn that was a wild night! So much fun...
sorry. but it was fun, especially for a Sydney sider who rarely even gets to see a wrestler in person.
however, back to it.
I think goldberg WOULD get more people to watch. Casual fans know who he is, and it may bring some old, casual wCw fans back into it.
The only way Goldberg would be able to join TNA is if Spike helped pay for his contract the way they are doing it for Sting.
