The Christian Cage Era is rolling right along and an NWA World Heavyweight Championship match should be in his future.
He’s certainly earned it.
Christian Cage had an enjoyable eight-year run in the WWE that clearly proved he’s one of the top entertainers in the business. He’s been a singles and tag-team champion on numerous occasions.
Now he deserves TNA’s top prize.
“It was a great eight years with nothing but great memories,” said Christian Cage, whose WWE run included The Brood, tag-teaming with Edge, an alliance with Lance Storm and a pairing with Chris Jericho, among other moments. “It always was a dream of mine to wrestle for the WWE, but that chapter of my life is closed. I’m now in the TNA chapter and want to make these years just as special, if not more.”
He arrived in Orlando for TNA on Nov. 13 for the Genesis pay-per-view. At Turning Point in December, he defeated Monty Brown. At Final Resolution, held Jan. 15 in Orlando, he aligned with the returning Sting to defeat Jeff Jarrett and Brown.
“Everyone in TNA has been real cool. I couldn’t ask for a better atmosphere, or a better place to come to work,” Christian Cage said. “The biggest (TNA) surprise so far has been the unity and the drive to make this show great. I think something special is going to happen here at TNA and we’re about to ride a nice wave.”
Christian Cage's WWE contract expired last Halloween. He was in the iMPACT! Zone a few weeks later after debating his future “until the final tick of the clock,” he said.
“I just felt it was time in my life to move on. At this point, this was the best decision for me, personally and professionally.”
Christian Cage brings some unique match-ups to TNA, battles that he himself wants, not just the fans. Imagine Christian Cage vs. A.J. Styles. Or Christian Cage - Christopher Daniels. Or Christian Cage - Samoa Joe. And how about Christian Cage and a partner against AMW or The Naturals.
“I want to help build this company and see its rise continue. I also want to become the NWA World Heavyweight Champion,” Cage said.
Christian Cage wants Jarrett. More specifically, he wants the gold that Jarrett clings to like a baby and his bottle.
IT’S A FACT … Before every match, Christian Cage spends an hour or more walking around the backstage area at Universal Studios away from everyone, clearly focusing on the upcoming in-ring events. “I do it to get mentally-focused on what I have to do,” he explained.
CHRISTIAN CAGE ON EDDIE GUERRERO: “Eddie Guerrero was an unbelievable human being. I had the honor and privilege to know him personally and professionally. Words cannot express what a humble and gracious human being he was. He will be sadly missed.”
ON MONTY BROWN: “Monty Brown has a natural charisma and presence about him, which is something you cannot teach. You either have that, or don’t – and he definitely does have.”
ON HIS TNA DEBUT: “That was unbelievable. I couldn’t ask for anything better. As a performer, you’re always worried how you’re going to be received and, yeah, I was worried before I went out there, but I was pleasantly surprised. I was nervous. I guess it’s the unknown that I was afraid of. I’ve been on some pretty big stages in the past, but just as nervous (for my TNA debut) as wrestling in front of 70,000 people live.”
