TNA Notes- 11/17

Bill Banks has posted some new notes on TNA's website:

The entire TNA staff is back in Nashville after nearly a week in Orlando, and there’s plenty to talk about.

First and foremost, everyone in wrestling got the sad news on Sunday morning about Eddie Guerrero’s passing. With our Pay-Per-View that night, the backstage area was especially somber. I wasn’t close to Eddie, but I got the opportunity to work with him for a few months during WCW. However, a number of our stars worked with him throughout his career and it hit some particularly hard. Everyone reflected kindly on Eddie throughout the day, and everyone had a nice story to share about him. He will be missed by many.

On Sunday night, in my opinion, TNA continued its streak of delivering on Pay-Per-View with “Genesis”, which featured the debut of Christian Cage. It will certainly be among the top candidates for “memorable moment of the year” when the TNA Year-End Awards are announced in a month. After his debut on Sunday, I got a chance to sit down with him for an exclusive interview for the website, and you could see the excitement in him. It’s great to be working with him again, as I last saw him “brooding” back in ’99. He’s come a long way since then, and he’s certainly going to be a tremendous addition to TNA Wrestling as he’s a class act with limitless talent.

The entire TNA roster stepped up once again to deliver a solid Pay-Per-View, with my personal favorites being the Elimination X and the Main Event brawl all over the arena. The Impact Zone had never witnessed an all-out war like the one that took place between Rhino/Team 3D and Jarrett/AMW, and I doubt that kind of carnage can ever be done again. Kudos go out to the TV Production crew, who hit a grand slam in covering the main event war. The TNA cameramen certainly earned their stripes that night being caught in the middle. I you missed the Pay-Per-View, you can still catch the replay all this week.

TNA’s upcoming “Turning Point” Pay-Per-View on Sunday, December 11 is already taking shape, with some big matches announced this Saturday night on “iMPACT!” on SpikeTV at 11pm ET. Already announced is TNA’s first-ever Barbed Wire Match, pitting Sabu against Abyss. Unlike some other Barbed Wire matches you may have seen, this match will see the six-sided ring completely wrapped with the razor wire with some barbed-wire weapons thrown in – so it’s going to practically be impossible for Sabu or Abyss to avoid it. If you’re a fan of bloodshed and wrestling, this bout should certainly be an early Christmas present. It should be interesting to see if Jim Mitchell can get Abyss to overcome his fear of the razor wire before the big match.

This Saturday’s “iMPACT!” on SpikeTV will feature the following:
- The TNA “iMPACT!” debut of Christian Cage
- Footage from Sunday’s “Genesis” Pay-Per-View
- An update on the condition of The Fallen Angel
- “The Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe in action
- News on who Jeff Jarrett will defend the World Title against at “Turning Point”
- America’s Most Wanted vs. Siaki and Apolo
- Main Event: Rhino vs. Abyss
- Plus, appearances by AJ Styles, Jeff Jarrett, Team 3D, The Alpha Male Monty Brown, Gail Kim, Raven and many more, plus more matches announced for “Turning Point”.

In my opinion, this Saturday’s “iMPACT!” is perhaps our best show to date on SpikeTV as I got a chance to see the final edited version on Wednesday night after getting back from Orlando. TNA returns to Orlando on Tuesday, November 29 for the next set of “iMPACT!” tapings as we head to “Turning Point”. The next “iMPACT!” tapings after that in Orlando will be December 13 and January 3.

TNA made some new hires last week, bringing on some familiar names to contribute as we continue to grow bigger each month. Dennis Brent, Ross Forman. Kathy Shelley and Matt Conway have all come on board with the company. You’ll be seeing columns and news from Dennis and Ross in the upcoming months here on the website. Between The Ropes own Brian Fritz will also be contributing to the website as well, working on some audio projects for us along with TNAwrestling.com website guru/night owl/non-sleeping freak Lee South. Fritz and South are working on a Podcast area for the website to go along with hopefully our live PPV streaming for international fans in early 2006.

Speaking of Lee, he and the rest of the TNA website staff of Dan Burgess and Marcus Cygy were hard at work in recent weeks stocking up the roster and multimedia area with over 800 new photos. Brand-new photos of Christian Cage and Jackie Gayda are on the site as well.

TNA’s Slammiversary, Hard Justice and No Surrender PPV DVDs will be available for purchase shortly on ShopTNA.com in time for Christmas. In addition, Final Resolution, Against All Odds and Destination X all hit the shelves in major retailers this week, so check them out when you hit the mall for your holiday shopping. You’ll find these new titles in stores along with the already-released “Best of the X Division Vol. 1,” “Best of AJ Styles,” “Best of Raven” and “Best of Jeff Hardy” DVDs. Bottom line, you’ll definitely have a ton to stock under the tree for any TNA fan this Christmas. “The Best of Christopher Daniels” hits stores January 10, with “Bound For Glory” and “The Best of Jeff Jarrett” coming soon thereafter in early 2006. On a side note, this week “Best of the X Division” is the #7 selling DVD on Videoscan (Sports), “AJ Styles” is ranked #10 and “Jeff Hardy” is #13.

Speaking of the Daniels DVD, I gave him the first finished copy at the Pay-Per-View. I am especially proud of the work and content on the DVD and I might go as far to say it’s our best release yet. Daniels watched a little bit of it prior to the Pay-Per-View and enjoyed it tremendously as well. Daniels will probably have plenty of time on his hands to watch it with his family after the beating he suffered at the hands of Samoa Joe at the Pay-Per-View.

Both Jeff Jarrett and AJ Styles are scheduled to appear at SpikeTV’s Video Game Awards, set to air December 10. TNAwrestling.com will have a full press release next week. For the gamers reading this, you can vote now on your favorites at SpikeTV.com.

Speaking of gaming, work continued this past week in Orlando for TNA’s future release by Midway Games. Photography was done with nearly every star on the roster, and in the upcoming months Midway will be bringing the TNA stars into their studios to begin computer rendering and graphics. I worked with Acclaim back in 1998 on a WWE game, and there’s a TON of man-hours that go into the production of each video game. It’s especially exciting for many of our younger TNA stars who are dedicated gamers and haven’t been part of a release yet. We’re hoping to have a few exclusive shots from Midway of the game on the website in the next week.

TNA producers Darryl Marshall and Jessie Ward were involved in a pretty nasty multi-car accident in Orlando on Sunday night after the Pay-Per-View. Both spend the night at the hospital but are doing fine and were back for Tuesday’s TV tapings.

I did an interview with Ron “The Truth” Killings about a month back for the website (currently in the interview archive) where he talked about his days in the rap business and hanging out with celebs. On Tuesday, The Truth gave us some cool photos of him with Tupac Shakur, Eazy-E and others. We’ll post the photos in the interview in the next few days.

Congratulations go out to Apolo and wife Habana, who welcomed a newborn son into the world last week.

For all you website bloggers out there looking for updated TNA news, you can now subscribe to the TNA RSS news service on the homepage of the website by clicking the button in the lower right.

We’re currently working on the categories/nominees for the annual TNA Year-End Awards, which should be up on the website after Turning Point for voting to begin.

TNA’s Jeremy Borash is in Detroit this week to get footage of Rhino for use in a special “iMPACT!” feature set to air on the former NWA World Heavyweight Champion. The package will include footage of Rhino training throughout several Detroit landmarks, as well as the star’s candid thoughts on his wrestling career. I’ve been told the footage thus far is outstanding and our editing team is looking forward to putting it all together for air in the upcoming weeks.

Rumor has it more TNA/SpikeTV primetime specials are on the way – more information will be released when we have the details.

Former WCW/WWE star Shannon Moore competed this past week at the TV tapings in a tryout dark match against Chris Sabin and did great despite a little ring rust. In my opinion, Moore would make a great addition to the X Division if TNA management decides to offer him a spot on the roster.

Everyone enjoy Saturday’s “iMPACT!” on SpikeTV and have a safe and filling Thanksgiving holiday!

Bill Banks

--------------------------------------------------------------------

It's good to see that work has already begun on the TNA videogame, it's also good to see Shannon Moore recieiving a tryout and I hope that they sign him since he would be great for the X Division.

Well, I watched the show as well. Here is my personal breakdown from a noob TNA watcher.

Opening Segment with Jarrett:

I just can't get past that Southern Twang. I also feel that just from watching this for a week or so that Jarrett just doesnt seem like World Title type material. He lost to Chyna in his last WWE match.......Im kidding. But he does need to lose that title and fast. haha

Samoa Joe vs. Some Jobber.

I am assuming this kid was a jobber to the undefeated Samoa Joe. I am also guessing that he either just turned heel or heeled on his own team. It appears that he was already a heel with Christopher Daniels but I dont know. Samoa Joe is extrememly impressive from what I have seen.

AMW vs. Sonny Siaki/Apollo.

Eh, standard tag match to put over AMV. I really dig their entrance attire though, complete with a beer. haha. These guys seem pretty cool to me.

Kip James/Road Dogg Recap and promo

They are so breaking up soon. This 3livecrew thing. Konnan tell Road Dogg to go back to rehab? Man, I hate Konnan. I can't express enough how much I dont like this dude.

I really dig Shane Douglas in his current Grisham role. His facial expressions are good. I used to always hate this guy, but his new role is pretty suiting.

Main Event

Abyss vs. Rhino

I am sorry, but this guy that comes out with Abyss is downright laughable. Dont ask me why but I always thought Abyss was Foley fat, but he is pretty damn good shape and is alot bigger than I remember. Did he used to be fat?

Good match. Interesting finish.

Post Match.

Larry Nabiscoooooo.....Get this guy off tv. Poop.

Christian Cage Promo:

I really dig his entrance. I am sorry. I am calling it right now. This will be a huge acquisition ala Jericho to WWE in 99.

Good promo by Christian.

Monty Brown comes out to interrupt. I LOVE this guy. haha. Charisma oozes out of this guy.

Ok, so good back and forth promo action followed up by a Pounce by Monty Brown. Christian sells it like he is hit by a truck to end the show.

Other notes:

I still think the six sided ring while an awesome concept is just too small for the wrestlers to pick up speed in the ring.

I will most definetly be watching this show every week now. I really like the product

It was weird that Double J actually was making sense when he finally got in to see Nabisco ( haha ). There are other guys like Raven who should be getting the title shot

They are TRYING to turn him Heel. he is a moron and still plays to the crowd however, and doesn't quiet get how to be a heel yet it seems. Either that or they are tring to make him a fat brown version of SCSA.

AMW vs. Sonny Siaki/Apollo.

Eh, standard tag match to put over AMV. I really dig their entrance attire though, complete with a beer. haha. These guys seem pretty cool to me.

It is odd seeing them come off as dirty rednecks who look like they haven't bathed in months. The beer thing was ok I guess but it was obvious it was going to be used in the match. Siaki use to be one of the top guys in TNA. He liked to act like he was the second coming of The Rock.

I am shocked that you didn't mentin Team 3D. Devon really needs to wear a shirt and Bubba looks like he is trying to be like Mick Foley with that lumberjack vest shirt thing.

They have been breaking up for like a year now with this very storyline. I can't remember ever seeing a storyline run this long with no payoff. It would be interesting if they did something totally unexpected with this to throw us all for a loop

I really dig Shane Douglas in his current Grisham role. His facial expressions are good. I used to always hate this guy, but his new role is pretty suiting.

I couldn't agree more. Shane as interviewer is a great role for him

He is kind of chubby. If you saw at the end there he pulls down his shirt to hid the flabv. he was never really fat though. He is a much better technical wrestler than Foley and really, he is more comparable to Kane than to Foley.

Post Match.

Larry Nabiscoooooo.....Get this guy off tv. Poop.

Christian Cage Promo:

I enjoy watching Monty and the guy is so well spoken. I kept expecting him to fumble with all the big words he was using but nope, he did a great job.

I really hate Christians enterance and I think it is tacky to use one of the most popular and tagged enterances ever to be in wrestling. It is just plain and simple a rip off and it is cheap to me. Not to mention the music is so totally generic and Christian puts as much energy into it as someone waking up from a nap.

Other notes:

I still think the six sided ring while an awesome concept is just too small for the wrestlers to pick up speed in the ring.

I like watching TNA too but the crowd and some of the people involved like Nabisco ( lol I called him that before I saw you did as well ) and how cheap the production comes off are lame;not to mention the small crowd makes it seem like a glorified indy show, which it is. I hope SpikeTV pours some money into the show so that it looks a little more respectable.

The fact that slays me with TNA right now is that JJ is the ultimate heel.

With TNA you need a heel that smart fans hate (TNA being the true wrestling fans show) and JJ carries it off. I hate the MoFo. He bugs the Fcuk out of me and I just realised he's good at doing it. He's better than HHH and that really is saying something.

Cram that, children.

I agree K Jay. From first impressions Monty Brown should have the title and it should be extremely tough to get it off him.

I'm curious why you two didn't put your thoughts of Impact into the Impact thread itself.

BTW, the guy Samoa Joe destroyed was Jerrele Clark and he is indeed just an enhancement worker for TNA. Samoa is supposed to be a heel, the problem was that he was so popular during his 18 month reign as ROH champion that is not easy for them to do it.
